Sent my car in for servicing on Sunday morning (14/02). Waited for a while before mechanic Wee came in. Told him what I need and he proceeded to work on the car. Did oil, atf and spark plug change. Price quoted before start of job was reasonable. Wee proceeded to do a complimentary check on the car. He asked how many years are left on the car and how it is being used. He advised what is wearing out but there is no need to change based on my usage at the moment. There was no hard selling, which is something I appreciate compared to other workshops who will tell you to change this or that. Servicing was done in 3hrs and a free aircon check was done at my request to see if topping up of gas is required. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone looking for a reliable workshop. Plus the convenience of doing it on Sunday!

I want to thank Roy and Ah Long for the excellent & efficient service for getting the repair work done on my car very quickly. They also went the extra
mile to check that my car is safe on the road by looking into some other minor issues I brought to their attention. With your friendly and caring service, I feel confident in having my car sent to them for maintenance for the long term. This is my 4th time getting my car serviced at the workshop. Satisfied with every service. Strongly recommended.

I recently had a problem with my car's aircon. A visit to 1st Auto, and the problem (oxidation of metal contact points in a chip) was correctly diagnosed (as it was a common problem in my model of car), and rectified for a minimal sum. Diagnosis is a big part of my job, and I really appreciate the skill and experience involved in arriving at a correct diagnosis. Many other workshops would simply offer to flush the aircon system or change the compressor unit without a clear idea of the problem, thus causing their customers to incur unnecessary costs.

Poor quality works :(  Posted on 09-Jul-2013

After seeing so many good reviews, recently went down to them for some works - change shock absorbers, change headlight, repair faulty odometer light, check out wiring for audio (cannot turn on).

Called beforehand, and got quoted over the phone for the absorbers and fixed a date/time for it. On the day, I reached there at specified time, but they were very busy with other work. Got served half hour later, but the guy didn't seem to know the details of the problems - so I had to tell him again.

Anyway, the price he quoted for the shock absorber work was higher. The guy explained that it was because the lady over the phone didn't include labour charges in the quote. Oh well... didn't feel good, but I also couldn't remember exactly whether I got ask about labour charges. Can't argue or complain already, but just need to note to ask for an estimate on labour charge next time round. So... I accepted his explanation and went ahead with it.

I went off after leaving the car there. After 3-4 hours, the girl called and I went back to pick up the car. Everything seems to be ok, and the report said absorbers changed, and the lights replaced. They also said the car engine mounting was bad (known problem). Nothing mentioned about audio system. I queried, and they said it's only a loose connector/wiring which they simply attached back, so no charge. I thought it was a good gesture on their part :)

Because it was in the middle of a hot sunny day, I couldn't fully tell if the lights are okay, but they did seem to work. Audio was also working. :) Shock absorbers... well, I think it was replaced - humps felt slightly less irritating, but still bad. Friend say I should have been there to see them do it to ensure they really got replace the parts, as some workshops tend to anyhow do, or worse re-use old parts on unsuspecting car owners. Still not feeling confident, but maybe I'll get other workshop to take a look.

At night when I turn on light, I realised the odometer light is back, but the fuel gauge light is gone. Started to have suspicion that they did a slipshod job and didn't bother checking after they finished their work. Never mind, I was thinking next time when I go back again then gently remind them.

On the next day, the audio stopped working. Zzz... Oh well, I suspected maybe the loose part was working up again. Or perhaps they just attached back the loose part and didn't secure it well. In any case, impression of them getting worse.

Spent $700+ in all, but didn't really feel good about it in the end. In general, I'd say it was average service, prices are fair compared to other quotes I got, but perhaps not thorough in their work. Maybe too busy... or maybe declining standards. Could improve the coordination between the phone operator and mechanic too. In any case, just an honest feedback :)

Came here for a routine aircon servicing and I needed to replace quite a few parts including filter. They quoted me a reasonable price and I haven't had a problem with my aircon since that servicing 5 months ago. Staff and Mr Yap very friendly and helpful too.

My car started experiencing problems with the aircon system middle of last year. The first workshop I went helped clean-up the radiator fin, changed the filter and top-up the gas. It lasted for about 2 months. Thereafter, the same problem surfaced. I took my car to another more reputable workshop and this time, the mechanic suspect the system is alittle choked hence he recommended flushing the aircon system. This lasted about 3 months and again, the problem came back. Last Monday, I took my car to a workshop at Jurong Port Rd and the mechanic diagnosed it as a leaking fan-coil. He quoted be the replacement cost and said it will take a full-day to complete. I was a little apprehensive as it was quite costly.
A good friend then recommended me 1st Auto. When I called Roy (Service Advisor), he was very friendly and patient, explaining all possibilities and how they can help rectify this problem. He also quoted me a more reasonable cost for the replacement and said only needed about 4 hours to complete the job. I sent my car to his workshop on Tuesday noon and he explained to me what needs to be done. Checked with me the cost and agreed to proceed. As it is, they took only 4 hours to replace the parts and also shown me those they have removed from my car, sharing where the problems were.

I'm impressed with their service, cost and overall a good experience.
I strongly recommend anyone who needs help on rectifying their aircon problems to talk to Roy.
Thanks Roy.

Had engine leakage during CNY and called workshop on 3rd day workshop. Was told that they open on 4th day(Wednesday). The boss Mr Yap advise me to check and top up engine so so that it will not run dry. Next day, visited workshop and Roy diagnosed as engine head gasket leakage. Got the mechanic to replace the gasket, wash the engine. Yap personally inspect the engine after repair was carried out before releasing the car. Price was reasonable and quite Impressed with the level of service. Was told to monitor for a few days. Would recommend my friends to go to this workshop for servicing and repair.

I have been to a few workshops from Autosave, Hanip Auto, Riverview to Huat Lee. Read about the reviews here so decide to go try for servicing in Nov 2012. The venue was messy due to the new MRT line constructions. My car was accessed by a couple of friendly mechanics...was told that the coolant valve is leaking among a few other issues and was advised replacement parts which to-date never came nor was there any folllow-up even after I called in. Did not see any computerize diagnostics like in some other workshops which I visited. Wheel alignment was done elsewhere which I would rather they tell me that it is not an in-house service and recommend me to their 3rd party instead of promising and then disappeared with my car and return an hour later, wheel rotation is unknown. I am uncomfortable with such arrangements as I am unable to see what was or was not done in the process. Went back home after the servicing and found the brake fluid and coolant levels not top-up, complaint about noise in the brakes was not addressed as well. Quite shabby work by my standards...disappointing. Will not return for a second time.

My first servicing in last October using Groupon voucher, very detail check by the team. Mr Yap also came to me and intro himself to during my waiting. Roy explained to me that there is leakage in the undercarriage , timing belts and spark plug require to change and quoted me a reasonable price. After the servicing, found that there is loud noise during the ride. Immediately bring my car down the following day, Roy had attended to me and settle the problem within few hours. In the end, found out that the timing belt is too tight. No complain to their after-sales or customer service, however I feel happy that they provide immediate service recovery and rectify the problem. *(as some other shops might not entertain or place you last in queue)

As I found my water temp keep increasing during idle recently. I called them on Sunday and was advise to bring my car down. So immediately went down as it is near my workplace. They found my water pipe leakage and help me to tighten it back and without hesitate, I opt for my 2nd car servicing.

P/s: Maybe the management should offer some discounts for customers who come back for their car servicing. =)

Hi

I just want to share my experiences that I had with 1st Auto.

My Honda Civic 1.6 was getting very noisy and being a non-technical person, I did not know what was wrong with the car.

So, I asked for a workshop recommendation in the photography forum that I'm a member of. 1st Auto was recommended.

I find that the staff and boss of 1st Auto are very friendly and approachable. When they see you, the acknowledge you and come to your assistance. I visited them last Thursday to have my belt tensionerr and water pump replaced, the job was done efficiently in about 4 hours.

I visited them again 2 days later because my car vibrated quite hard when reverse gear was engaged. After Mr Yap diagnosis of the problem, he asked his mechanic to have the throttle body cleaned. The mechanic spent about 45 mins doing the job while Mr Yap and I chatted.

From the chat, I found that he has other outlets and the range of cars that he service/repairs/restore range from old 1900s vintage cars to super cars like Lambo. Wow, how's that for technical ability.

The best part was that he decided not to charge me for the throttle body cleaning. I'm really impressed with Mr Yap generosity!

I would definitely come back for my regular car servicing.

Worried after aircon repair  Posted on 29-Nov-2012
  • Outlet Experience1.0
I was having problems with my car's aircon and saw the numerous good comment here for 1st Auto, hence, decided to bring my car to them yesterday. After I had explained about my car's aircon problem, I was told by Roy that most likely my aircon blower is faulty. One of their mechanic checked and confirmed it. The diagnostics was fast. I agreed to procee with the repair of the faulty blower. The repair took about an hour and a halve, which was quite impressively fast.
After the repair, the aircon was set to manual @ 18C. I returned the settings of my aircon back to the settings that I'm used to (auto mode @ 24C). To my surprised, hot air came out instead of cool air. The other problem was that when the Auto button was depressed, the blower keeps running at full speed and it keeps switching to 'blowing to feet' mode.

I returned to let the mechanic check it again. After sometime of checking, Roy told me that they 'suspect' that the blower sensor maybe damaged. He told me that I would have to wait for another car of the same make and model to come in so that they could 'test' to see if the sensor was faulty. The mechanic told me that he had to disconnect some wiring now so that the aircon can function while we wait for another car to pull in. Roy also said that he will try his best to get a sensor to test. Somehow I felt uneasy with the reply. I am curious about how does the sensor affect the auto mode keep switching to foot mode instead of the original dashboard mode? The other doubts are there isn't any time frame to when I can resolve the issue and that I may have to bare for the incompetency of the mechanic.

Thank you very much for getting in touch with 1st Auto. We have been informed that your air con is been repair by us, and we are the last point of contact before this incident that happen. We are very sorry for the miscommunication. Please allow me to further explain to you about you car condition.

I understand that initially you car's air con blower is faulty and after checking by my mechanics, they have confirm that the blower need to change. After the changes, you have also realized that the setting gone hay-wire for some unforeseen event. And in-order to look into this problem without any hidden costs for our customer, We used our own courtesy car and we try to see if it is the air-con sensor faulty. As it is not cost-efficient to get a new sensor and try it. The blower sensor is a logic module that send signal to the A/C and determine the temp that is preset in the system. Once this logic board is faulty, it cannot determine the temperature in the surrounding. So it causes the air-con to be the not in control state.

We hope that we can serve you better kindly give us a call and we can arrange a appointment with you to do a check for for your car.

Once again, we are very sorry about this incident. We will look into this and improve ourselves to handle it. Thank you for allowing us to serve you better.

I am personally very impressed by the superb service the team Mr Yap has. I just bought a 2nd hand Nissan Sylphy 2.0CVT from a dealer, when I got my car and drove for about 5 days, the air con compressor broke down. Went back to the dealer because they provided 6 months warranty on engine, gear box, and air con compressor. They sent my car to their workshop, and to my surprise, they claimed that the warranty does not cover the "faulty valve" in the compressor. I immediately called 1st auto Mr Roy for opinion. (He helped me to replace my old car's air con blower, which is about 60% the price of the rest of the vendors I enquired) Mr Roy spent almost like 15 mins explaining to me over the phone, advising me what to do , etc. In the end, settled with the dealer on the repair based on 50/50 liability. I send my Nissan Sylphy for their evaluation. They did a 25 point check, (took them about 1 hour+), and advised me which part had worn off, for my consideration to change. The inspection was done FOC! And, furthermore, I checked with some other vendors on the price of the line item they quoted me, it's again the cheapest in town! The price 1st auto quoted, is almost an assurance that it's the fairest market rate.

Mr Yap, the owner of the workshop, is a very passionate guy, highly competent in not just Japanese car, but also continent car. He did some study in Europe on Car mechanics a few years back. I am very impressed by him because he had not went to a proper school before, yet he craved for the latest knowledge and technical-know-how in car mechanics. He had several projects in reviving some antique cars, there's one car that was built in 1918, he and his team successfully replaced all the parts, including adding in a customized air-con system. Fantastic job done. Highly recommend to engage their service. People with such passion and ethic almost does not exist in this trade! Thank you Mr Yap and your team.
