Probably the most feature packed 1.4L in the market. `
The Sonic is probably the most feature packed 1.4L car in the market today - highly recommended if you want an agile city car with good handling and features that some 1.6/2L cars provide - all at a reasonable price. Note that the stated fuel consumption of 15.6 km/l is unlikely unless you travel 80% Highways.

Small and cute `
Looks sporty and cute, if do a it of design will look like a rally car. Over all not bad for local roads to drive in. So far not seen on the road yet.

Student Enthusiasts' Most Affordable `
The new Sonic slots in pretty decently as a nice student car. At $10,000 lower than its elegantly pretentious competitors - the Vios and Lancer; or the equally priced 1.6 Low Grade Elantra - this one is similarly frugal, attracts a much lower road tax than anyone else, possesses a better muscular stance and most importantly - completely ready for modifications. To give you an idea - drilling a cold air-intake into the bumper of the new Vios or Elantra would seriously kill their looks. The Sonic however, sports a more adaptable body. First the good news: Gear ratios have already taken care of low end torque - providing for zippy, throttle-icious takeoffs from stop lines. The bad news: As all low displacement vehicles go - too bad for high speed - the engine will start to sound drained. Figures are also lower than competitors for both power and torque - which makes it difficult to maintain stock condition ;) When you have a car that is not aligned with mainstream Chevys capable of high outputs, it creates a powerful desire to be a successful misfit, very much like the oddly shaped Nissan Juke. In the hands of the right car enthusiast, given the low starting price, there is plenty of reason (and hopefully money) to modify this into a entry level local muscle - all whilst enjoying the Cat A COE and Road Tax. The most popular competitor, the Toyota Vios, I would agree is perhaps a better car (although not worth it's higher sticker price) - having a proven reliability. However, it unforgiveably is also a sheep's clothing donned on an outdated, undertransmitted? (4AT) engine. At cruising speeds, that wolf is gonna yowl well beyond the noise levels you could potentially experience in Sonic's 6AT 1.4. Toyota got it right for the new Corolla, but the Vios is just not what it used to be 2 generations ago. There is nothing to seriously bleat about owning this Chevy. However it is pretty unmatched at how you can take ownership of it. I see a lot of potential despite the price being so cheap and only available in Top end trim (LTZ). Surprisingly, this seems to have the overall package to fulfill its tagline - Find New Roads (and enjoy modifying your car).

Good car for first owner `
I had this car since 2012, so i would like to share what i know about it. Power - I find 1.4 litre is a little under powered as my 1.6 litre gives better acceleration when the car is having a load (eg. Air conditioner switched on with 4 passengers.) Consumption - Mine is able to travel 600KM per full tank, the tank is about 45 litres. It is a very zippy car for A to B destinations. Performance & Handling - Not much to say about this, a 1.6 litre is still a small car, it certainly is not any faster than performance car. I find the handling acceptable, a sway bar will actually improve the maneuverability. Quality - Mine is made from Bupyeong, South Korea. The quality is probably like any South Korean cars in the market. Well, personally i think they are better than those made in Rayong in Thailand. I find that the metal structure of the car is not as solid as other popular cars. I have a problem with the clutch as there is a clicking noise when releasing it, the dealership found that it was because of engine mount. After fixing it, rarely I would still hear that sound. The gear label wears off on my third year and I have a recall outstanding due to ignition wear. Interior - The leather seats are fairly comfy, the back seats are slightly more steep, harder to sleep, the size is also quite compact. The sedan boot is huge, putting the back seats down may allow two to sleep. Exterior - There is a front mudguard that is underneath the car that every time the car passes a higher or lower platform, it will scratch for sure but sure it is better than hitting the bumper. I have an issue with the rear passenger window as the rubber under it should be flush straight but is not and I have yet to bring it to the dealer. Afterall, I would give 7/10 to this car. My first baby :)
