The Volvo V40 is one of the most underrated cars around.

Despite being around since 2013, it still looks excellent and relevant today, without any significant changes throughout the years.

The interior looks slightly dated compared to the new technology of touch-screens, but the functions that are available are on par with what new cars offer, and are easy and intuitive to access and use.

The car also comes with a lot of Safety functions - both electronically and mechanically. Structurally the Volvo enhance safety of the occupants by including the Whiplash Protection System, Side Impact Protection System etc. New cars of today pay a lot of attention to safety features but lack the structural quality to withstand impacts in the event of an actual accident.

Coming from an Audi, quality of the interior is superb. Honestly, I feel that the Volvo V40's interior quality is equal or better in many areas compared to the Germans.

This car is fantastic value for money, now that they are only available in the used car market. Depreciation is about the same as Japanese cars, but one gets so much more out of the dollar.

0-100km/hr in 6.9s for latest T4 engine. Simply a pleasure to drive.

What I like
- Excellent safety offers on this car.

- Excellent acceleration, resulting from power and torque from the T4 engine.

- Thor Hammer headlights

- Excellent seats (honestly, the best I have ever come across).

- Sunroof.

- Very good sound system.

- 18" rims.

- Slightly raised height, easy to get in and out and better protection against floods.

What I do not like
- Layout of the centre console.

- Very slightly harsh ride when going over potholes.

A joy to drive daily. Power comes when you need it. Handling is crisp and sharp. Comfortable for the whole family. Plenty of storage for a week of groceries. Only downside is that shift change not as smooth as DSG. But you get a lot of airbags for protection. Premium quality.

Test drove it. Found the car decently fast

nice out of box experience. Choice of colors not that wide.

The pricing option is very confusing on the newspaper

What I like
great seats

nice cockpit design

wheels are nice as well as the ride height is decent

moon roof while great could be better if there was a transition dimming function

What I do not like
did not like the rear config seats as it makes the rear cramp with the two side seat offset towards the center.

the u turn makes it feels like an lancer evo. wide Turing radius

obsolete hifi

low omv

lack of mod for improving the performance

woody steering

no adaptive chassis control

This is a great cool, stylish car. Exterior is extremely attractive especially with the moonroof and all the internal gadgets. Particularly like the speed limit warnings and all the different ambient lights

Like any Volvo, safety features are top notched

What I like
Great exterior
Moon roof
Safety features
comfortable seats
excellent power

What I do not like
suspension a little hard
rear boot a little small

Volvo is a re-known car brand that hails from Scandinavian country that gives the world IKEA! The V40 Cross Country (a lifted platform as compared to the V40) sits as the entry model available in Singapore.

What I like
First of all, just the exterior look of it tells you what kind of target customers they are looking for. Young, sporty, adventurers drivers ... coupled with the panoramic sunroof it caters the natural light that brighten the drives!

Acceleration is smooth and the digitized speedometer increase the futuristic design of this car. The higher platform in the cross country does not significantly affect the tuning and body roll, it drives like a normal car which is great. Boot space is reasonably good and from outside you can't really tell instantly that this is a compact car under Cat A!

What I do not like
However I must say that the biggest let down is the interior console! The numeric keypad design really makes you wonder if the folks in back in Sweden have realized that with the advent of smartphones, not many people really dial the numbers manually from their phone... and most will not on a car!

The interior storage space around the drivers seats are not many and innovative as we see in Golf, Picasso. After all sporty adventure seekers have a lot gadgets to store when they are driving!

excellent looking sports car with great style with definitely continental flavour that will create attention on the road

What I like
- excellent sporty look and great design
- excellent sports car performance with great torque
- very tuck in on driver seat - typical sports car style, you will feel very sporty and secure as a driver
- great reaction on steering with light touch
- square exhaust pipe looks classy yet sporty compliment

What I do not like
- quite pricey if you compare amongst the other similar model i.e BMW 1 series. Mercedes A class, etc
- back seats space are quite small, probably not a 3 seater behind for sure, even 2 big size adult proofs a challenge
- heard there are software issues on the overall car system - not sure how true
- although it's build for sporty drive, compared to the hardcore sports car like Subaru WRX, still a distance to match i.e. suspension, etc

Got this car 2 months ago. The car is a head turner especially in town. If you like attention this is one car that can get you that. However, it is plagued by software problems like the infotainment system hanging from time to time leaving you with no bluetooth no DVD no iPod no information or changing configurations of the car. It also has annoying steering noise after a long drive or by the time you reach home. My DVD is also no working since the day I got it only to discover it 2 months later. Bluetooth was buggy as well leaving me unable to dial out after working for 2 months. Auto Start - Stop is noisy and jerky, handling is so so. There is a significant turbo lag as well. Fuel consumption for my 70 highway 30 city is 8.8km/liter.

What I like
Stylish, Safe, Comfort, Feature parked (when they work)

What I do not like
Problematic. The issues were escalated to Volvo HQ. No news yet after more than 1 month. Just send it in for DVD and bluetooth problems. And please note. Some V40 cannot be integrated with their own reverse camera. They either come with it from factory or none. You can only install external 3rd party ones with seperate screen.

Comfort: Great, nice comfy seats, steering wheel fits well, suspension is firm but not harsh

Reliability: So far so good but only driven it like for 5 days

Handling: Definitely great, nice to push and you are always assured of it keeping the line (based on Ford Focus is perhaps the reason why)

Exterior Styling: Get it in Brown and if you have the money get the 19 inch rims and it will look really solid as a compact hatch

Interior Design: This is where it shines, clean, uncluttered design, posh, driver centric dash, nice tactile feel to it

Features: Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Alert, Road Sign Detection, Collision warning (all within the City Safety Package) DSTC, TFT inter-changeable themes for your dash (quite a nice novel feature), sun roof, interior ambience lighting changes, bicycle rack (courtesy of OCBC), Engine start Stop (ok this feature took me 2 days to adapt to it, I sometimes prefer to turn it off), Day Time Running Lights

Value for Money: Erm not at its current price, no fault of its own but COE is too high, I bought it based on a financially unsound mind but that said, running cost is cheap as it is a 1.6 turbo, road tax is less, petrol consumption is about 12km/l (currently) and it comes with 3 years free comprehensive maintenance package plus Volvo on Call etc

Engine Peformance: Solid for a 4 cylinder 1.6 Turbo. It really pulls away if you step on the pedal

What I like
See above

What I do not like
1. Noise intrusion audible at speed
2. Rearview is small (for someone who had been driving sedan), am thinking of installing the rear view camera...
3. Gearknob does not illuminate. It was supposed to as stated in the brochure, apparently there was a misprint... would have been nice....
4. No electric seat for passenger, better half complained about the need to manually adjust the seat.
5. Rear space is a squeeze for 3 adults
6. Sun Roof compromised headroom for taller passengers
7. Info system does not come with GPS option, Wearnes will need to mount a garmin on the pillar... (why would I want that when there is a 7 inch screen in dash? Will look for other alternative to install the GPS in dash)
