Renault Fluence Diesel 1.5T dCi Privilege (A) Facelift Review
04 Sep 2015  |  Renault Reviews
With its long wheelbase and new turbodiesel engine, the new Renault Fluence is easily one of the most spacious and fuel-efficient in its class.

Was thinking of either getting Kia K3, Nissan Qashqai or Renault Fluence. Kia K3 seems to be the best of all 3 in term of value for money while Qashqai is the trend for Cross over. However, after much consideration and assessment, my heart goes to Fluence. I am currently driving an 8 years old plus Renault Megan and I would say the reliability is not bad for a French car. I test drove the Fluence and it is quiet and it has that conti feel. My family also like the car a lot and it will be good for long road trip as we travel to Malaysia very often. The car is also features packed and I like the radio/ media control stick , which makes the steering wheel uncluttered and clean. Will be collecting my car this Sun and can't wait to get it. Will update again after driving the car for sometime.

What I like
1) Unique radio/ media control stick
2) Electronic sun roof
3) Auto wiper and headlight
4) 8 speakers sound system
5) Xenon headlight
6) Auto walk away door lock
7) Big boot space
8) Rear Aircon
9) Good acceleration
10) Cruise control and speed limiter
11) Good legroom for rear passenger
12) 7in LCD screen
13) LED DLR
14) Cool speedometer
15) Quiet and good handling

What I do not like
1) Interior material can be improved

Waited for six months and the first 10K servicing to write this; Not that I wasn't itching to post earlier. As a first car, this was a risk of sorts - conti (and French at that) and diesel. But I am enjoying it every one bit. It has shined in all departments tested so far:

- Weekday commute in medium-heavy traffic: 75% E'way
- Mass rapid transit: 6 adults at 90 kmh
- People and luggage hauler that purred along at 100 kmh from the airport with 2 adults, 2 children + 140 kg weight across three 28" Suitcases, 4 hand-carry cases and 2 backpacks in the boot and front seat
- That smooth ease of torquey acceleration when overtaking and moving off at junctions
- Fuel economy hitting 20.8 kmpl on e'ways and not dipping below 15.2 on roads
- Ride comfort for all passengers: leg room (2 of those adults above were 5 ft 9), suspension and climate (the rear vents do help a lot)
- Ambience and sound insulation: clatter barely registers above 20 kmh, and on the KJE, KPE & MCE it's hiss-quiet
- Cabin refinement: I love the uncluttered dashboard, elegant monochrome display (mine's the basic version and it exudes a serene feel especially at night, compared to the glare of multi-inch touch displays), understated climate and entertainment controls, genuine leather seats and judicious use of fabric, chrome and plastic throughout
- Practical electronics that don't overwhelm
- Clear, crisp audio that thumps well enough when needed
- That feeling of space, which everyone feels when they step into the car and sink into its seats
- Service engineer that's ready to help via phone or email without fuss

In the early days with the car I was concerned by the judder in start-stop traffic but I now put it down to inexperience with the EDC and diesel in general. It's a non-issue now.

A warning to potential drivers: watch your speed; You'll hit 60/90 before you know it. Even 120 barely feels like it. This is a beast that wants to be unleashed.

One complaint: I have yet to hit the mythical 22 kmpl - perhaps on its next test: the NSH.

Test drove the Fluence twice. I must say this car has (almost) everything thrown in. Automatic rain and light sensors, dual air-conditioning, rear air-con blower, parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, speed limiter, cruise-control, moon and sun roof, factory fitted audio and TomTom GPS. Its a comfortable, luxurious and smart looking family sedan.

Engine and power wise, you won't feel its a diesel. I think its because of the dual-clutch gear box and turbo. Flooring the pedal from stop to 100km/h was effortless. You can only hear a low base-like sound from the engine. It did not bother me though. Gear change was smooth, I had to pay attention then only I can feel it.

The cabin design looks complete and well-thought. Everything looks neat and in its place and not a last minute lets-put-this-knob-here feel. Except for the touch-screen audio. The placing is good for viewing, but too far for touch-screen.

Rear passengers have adequate leg room. Seats are angled for comfort. Boot space is more than sufficient, you can keep a "Cow" In it!

What I like
As I've stated in my review, I like almost everything there is to like about the car. I don't think there is any Cat A models that can beat the Fluence in terms of features and comfort.

What I do not like
I think the sound proofing in the cabin and audio quality can be improve.

The Fluence does not have the auto start-stop function. It think this feature is a good-to-have.

I bought renault fluence in singapore overall satisfied with the car but the front dashboard aircon grill left and right silver coated color reflect on both the side mirrors disturb me while driving it's so blur unable to view the mirror clearly. The dealer sales person advised me to change the paint color from silver to black. I found black color in other Renault brands. The dealer asks me to pay for the replacement of grill colors, I'm not interested to pay any more this is a brand new car. This problem is associated with interior design and painting.

What I like
fuel economical
More leg space
comfort
excellent performance

What I do not like
engine noise can be reduced by sound proof
interior A/C grill silver coated, need to be coated in black

This is good car it is value for money. I have been driving this car for a few months now. Reliability of the car is truly depends on how you maintain it.

What I like
Diesel powered so I am saving a lot of running cost. The bested mileage I ever clocked with this car was 4.5L/100km on highway.

After seeing the decent review from The Business Times, I was curious how it would fair when compared with its peers in the CAT A COE class.

The car looks good in real life and actually feels like it is from a class above. Maybe the length of the car contributes to it feeling more expensive than it is. Having a european look helps too.

Inside, it is very spacious. Definitely feels bigger than a Altis or Mazda3. However the seats felt hard and don't really support well. One thing i noticed was the radio controls being behind the wheel. Not very user friendly i felt.

On the move, the diesel engine was strong with the dual clutch gearbox behaving as good as any other auto gearbox. The engine clatter from the diesel is present though and might turn potential buyers off. Can't comment much about the handling other than it feeling stable due to test route.

What I like
- space
- looks more expensive than it is
- design
- fuel economy ( assume it should be good. FC reading on the car was 7l/100km during test drive)
- strong torquey engine
- attractive price

What I do not like
- diesel clatter
- radio controls
