The XF is hard to beat if you've got miles to do. The six-speed auto (with paddle override) is exceptional when in combination with the diesel engine. Forget the 3.0 V6 petrol - it doesn't suit the car. There's a normally-aspirated 4.2-litre V8 that's got 296bhp, gets the XF to 62mph in 6.2 seconds and on to 155mph and that's lovely. At the moment, very cool. Still a bit grown up for the kids to really hanker after, but people complain it looks like an Aston from the back. And that's a complaint how exactly? Exceptional quality from Jaguar, especially on the interior. Some gadgets, some inventive lighting solutions and some attention to detail have made this car feel every ounce the premium barge.

I have just bought the Jaguar XF luxury plus (now only called luxury since the dealer has taken off the plus). It was a difficult decision to make when options are BMW 5 series, Merc E class, Audi A6, Lexus GS 450 and Jag XF. I think they are all great cars when it comes to this level. Each has its own merit. Choice is very individualized. Personally, I chose jag over the others by exclusion. First of all, BMW and AUDI are out cos a new mode is coming out in about 1 yr for BMW and <2 yr for AUDI. I never quite like the idea of seeing a brand new, nicer model parking right beside mine in 1-2 yrs when my car is still considered "NEW". If I were to buy a car 1-2 yr from now, it will be a tougher choice. I had 2 BMW before and honestly aftersale service is average and very ex. Also the car has broken down quite a few times so I am not so confident about BM anymore. Nevertheless, I am sure the new 5 series will be very very attractive. I am never a fan for AUDI as personally, i think it's a second tier car after BMW, jag, merc. I had 1 Lexus before and it's extremely reliable and smooth riding. However, it's too "plastic" and not "European" enough. Also, the GS model is in the market for almost 4.5 yrs so not much longer to go. Saying so, I really love its hybrid 450 model which is powerful and fuel friendly. Price wise, it's not as value for money for the current market. The new E class is nice but more for people of early 40s. I am only in my early 30s so that made my choice clear. Now back to jag XF. I was mesmerized to its exterior look the first time I saw it. Straightaway, the only part which turned me off is the curved front light which could have been better wedged shaped. The back portion is very handsome esp when the light is on at night. Though it's the longest car among its peer, it's not as spacious as the rest given the narrow width of the car. But it's still quite comfortable for a 90Kg guy like me. The back can accommodate easily 2 adults and 1 kid and there is plenty of leg room. The interior features are kindof standard in its peer. The automatic rising air vent and gear knob are something that I enjoy but more of "just another useless features" to others. The cool blue atmosphere is again really cool at night. Given the declining reputation of jaguar, I think XF model will re-kindle interest in many buyers. AFterall, it has won so many awards.

The 2008 Jaguar XF has a lot to be proud of. Status, comfort, interior design & handling. Although it doesn't resemble the concept XF entirely, most of the features are there.
This four door sedan would have won more car enthusiasts over with a smarter front end. (ie. a more wedged shape front like the XK).
Among the luxury brands with a similar price tag, this is a clear winner!
