Review
I was fascinated by the 2 Series GT model since I first saw the news of it going around online. It is the first BMW 7 seater - MPV and yet it was mainly derived from the 2 Series AT platform.

At its core, a seemingly worrying 1.5 litre turbo charged diesel engine which I had my initial doubts to move 7 people comfortably. The low bhp yet amazing high torque proved to be the solution that allowed the car to drive with ease. The initial test drive was rather refreshing, the power delivered a smooth moving out pace. This extends to a good 50 - 60 km/h with ease but it starts to labour a little in my opinion from 60 - 100.

I love the feel of the drive to be honest. It was so comfortable that I had to take notice of the speedometer consistently to ensure I wasnt speeding. The speedometer is located a good 10 degrees lower than my normal horizon line which makes the "Head ups display" That much more desirable. Elebest *cough cough* Elebest please sponsor me :p.

It is a great 6 Seater (Father; Mother; 2 Teenagers / Adults Mid Row; 2 Kids Back Row) Notice I say 2 in the middle row, this is due to the lack of leg room once we adjust the middle row to accommodate leg room for the back row. Than again, if you have tiny feet it might work out.

All in all, my bias for continental car aside, I would say if you have a little more to spare, this is a great ride. With all that technology packed to make your ride so much easier, it is well thought out and definitely deserves a second look.

Hope this review helps out.

What I like
Technology PACKED car;
Nice interiors really posh feel;
Good drive;
Good moving out speed;
Decently head room (I am 1.8m and it was great);
Tiny Engine Great Torque;
Comfortable ride.

What I do not like
Lack of "thrust" in the 60 - 100 zone;
Tiny Middle Seat in the Mid Row;
Lack of leg room for 3rd Row;
Lack of Booth Space once 3rd Row is up;
Expensive;
Noisy engine from outside (especially start-stop);
Vibrations from engine can be pretty noticable;
Lack of AntiGlare on mirror;
Did i say Expensive? But than again its is a BMW. <3

I tested quite a bit of full MPVs and compact MPVs before test driving the 216D Gran Tourer on the AYE. I was impressed with how good the handling was, and how well it goes around corners. There was some body roll due to its height but it's not unduly bad. It was actually better than most MPVs I test drove.

I like how refine the interior was. How it felt luxurious even though it was a MPV. Though the boot space was not ideal, I was still won over by how good it felt being its driver.

If one is impressed during the test drive, I have to say the experience after owning it far outweigh the feeling from just having the car for a 20-30 min test drive. There is so much things about the car that you need more time just to truly appreciate the car.

For the price, you get innovative functionalities like the connected drive, navigation system (which you also can use up north), 3 years concierge services (better than just chicken rice shop directions especially if you get lost) etc that you expect from BMW.

I am not sure about the debate on FWD and RWD that most BMW purists complains about. But it definitely drives better than most cars with fantastic pick up and acceleration. The fuel efficiency is also just amazing on this Diesel engine. To add it all up, despite the sound on the engine, which is not that much within the cabin, you get to drive a lot more on far cheaper diesel.

If you have money to spare and need an occasional people carrier, this is definitely one of the top choices in the market.

What I like
1. Good driving experience
2. Good navigation system
3. Innovative and interactive electronics on board with the remote and connected drive apps on your smart phone
4. Spacious for a compact MPV.
5. Good fuel efficiency (if you do not spend too much time on the connected drive in stationary mode)
6. Nice interiors with lightings for your moods

What I do not like
1. Air conditioning for 3rd row should be improved
2. Minimum boot space when all seats are used
3. Slight body roll due to its height but understandable as it is not a salon car
4. Too many things to learn about the car i.e. Connected Drive, Eco Pro analyzer, putting Facebook and Twitter messages on the displays etc... It can be addictive as I sacrificed my fuel efficiency for it
5. Chances are I might get a speeding ticket soon (The car is too stable that you will not realize how fast you are going), the limiter helps but it is manually configured and cannot link to the navigation system that tells you the speed limit for each road.
6. That I may not be able to switch to a non-BMW car in the future.

Test drive the 2 Series Gran Tourer 7-seater last week, the drive was good and the car come with a lots of feature like auto parking, lane depart warning, auto tail gate with motion sensor and etc. But actually i not sure whether we need all these feature for everyday driving especially those sensor keep on bib all the time and make me fell frustrated sometime. Personally, i think that this car is best for high mileage driver because of the diesel engine that will definitely help to save on monthly petrol bill for sure. This car also suitable for family with younger kids as the third row definitely not able to fit in adult comfortably. Surprisingly the cabin insulation was good, diesel chattering negligible when inside the cabin. The suspension and seat a bit hard for me but overall driving is still consider comfort. Visibility was good and handling was great make it overall easy driving.

What I like
Easy Driving
Diesel Engine
High Torque
Very Good FC
Refresh exterior and interior look
Wood trim for luxury line

What I do not like
Look not aggressive enough to be a BMW
FWD
a bit cramp on third row
Pricing on the high side
no paddle shift

BMW's 2 series gran tourer mpv is a really good family vehicle with lots of features, combined with a surprisingly un-mpv-like drive.

as an mpv, the 2 series gran tourer works very well. Its not the biggest, but it is very usable. The seat configuration is good, allowing you to possibly seat 7 adults without too much cramping. The interior is also all very bmw-like, so quality touches and finishes all around. Visually i will admit it is a little bit dull and unexciting, but then again, it is an mpv.

the drive, surprisingly, is actually very good, and its possible to forget you are driving a 7 seater. The engine is particularly powerful, though economical, but the ride is good, comfortable but not overly soft. The handling is actually quite precise. While the car is no doubt big and will move about, it still feels quite intriguing and even fun.

What I like
- good to drive
- nice interior
- packed full with technology
- not super cramped even for a compact 7-seater mpv

What I do not like
- a bit dull looking
- on the expensive side

If you are looking for a midsize MPV then look no further. This car is packed full of features and great value for money. I was surprised that is has features found in cars costing tens of thousands more.. E.G. Lane keeping assist, power tailgate, auto parking, connected drive, and the list goes on.

It may be slightly smaller than some MPVs in the similar price range but it sure makes up by the versatility of the 7 seat configuration especially in the last row where you can lower one or two of the seats depending on your needs. Lot of storage compartments all over the car.. Only small gripe is I can't put a full sized tissue box :/

The drive is really nice. Being a 216d you won't get rabid power delivery of course, rather the diesel engine's torque just comes in spades like a hydraulic ram giving you effortless constant push up and above expressway speeds. Going up slopes..? No problem. Putting things in context, the handling is sharp and responsive for a MPV. Its a rather tall car so there is some body roll in corners. But if you had ever wanted to imagine what a BMW would drive like if they made MPVs then this is it... The BMW of MPVs err.. If you know what I mean.

What I like
Handles really well for a MPV
Excellent torque
Versatile interior configuration
Sound system
Low fuel consumption
Power tailgate comfort access
Full LED headlights and DRL
Welcome lights come on automatically when you return to your car

What I do not like
No space for standard tissue box
LED screen a bit smallish
Diesel engine sound a bit loud. No so apparent from inside the car though..
No cruise control
