Review
I just bought the serena highway star version last week. For those who want ample space in the car but do not want a size that is 2 big like the elgrand and alphard, this is the car for you. It is comfortable whether i am the passenger or the driver and i could put my grandfathers wheel chair into the back. There are alot of configurations to play with and with the simple hybrid system the petrol consumption is good. Those who would like to have a comfortable ride with ample space, this is the drive to go. Also although its a PI car the warrenty is under tan chong motors as this company is a part of tan chong international. Good service staff and i felt more at ease when buying from them knowing that they provide warrenty and servicing from tan chong.
What I like
multiple configurations for your needs behind.
rear adjustable aircon
lane departure warning system
good fuel consumption
when at traffic light the engine can be off for petrol saving
ample headroom
auto open close door (but that only come with the highway star model)
What I do not like
more for comfort than design
a wider turning radius (maybe cause i am used to driving a sedan)
Review
Squarish, and spacious interior, comfortable accommodation for at least 8 adults, people carrier from point to point.
What I like
2 versions
- Comfort version cost less (~10kSGD) manual sliding doors, no fog light and original fabric seats. Highway Star version comes with body kit, power sliding doors and locally fitted leather seats.
- versatile with seats to switch 7-8 seater (many configurations possible - see manual or youtube)
- very spacious front to back
- very good interior height, actually already like a van in some ways
- aircon vent on 2nd row
- relatively cheap compared to other 2.0 mid-size MPV in the market
What I do not like
- sliding door material, make quite thin
- no 3rd row aircon vent
- Serena is not carried by Tan Chong, but PI company, however I think can still use the warranty & maintenance services provided by Tan Chong
- only 2 front airbags
- quite squarish externally, like a van
