I test drove this car weeks ago. The outside of the car looks great and the inside is comfortable. Ride very smooth. FC is abit of a problem but boot space is great when all 3 rows of seats are up.

Family Car that I wanted to have `

Me and my wife used to drive in US and middle east. We were used to cars where seating is spacious and comfortable. I used to drive a 2005 Odyssey while in Huston and found the car very useful, especially for long drives and family outings where I could take my outdoor kits with me.
When we moved to Singapore, we wanted to keep it to Honda due the reliability of the Honda brands and also due to the strong second hand market.
Reading the reviews on the new 2009 Odyssey and the new rear light and the new front, we decided to go to KM and order the car. Me and my wife took test drives even with the lack of things we expected from the reviews, we liked the power range, it was more smooth than my earlier model. We placed the order and took the delivery.
After a month of delivery, I went in for the 1st service and in the second month, we took the car to Phuket, with 5 people in Odyssey together with another Japanese made saloon. The driving comfort and passenger comfort was very good. It took to the potholes with ease and even when I touched 200KMPH the car felt solid. As there were few single lane roads in Thailand en-route to Phuket, it was a pleasure to overtake other vehicles, the torque of the car was excellent, it gave me more confidence to overtake other cars with ease, just press the throttle a bit more the car will accelerate smoothly to overtake the car in the front.
Except for the issues I faced with the gearbox in P-mode on a downhill or uphill. The car was very good
I took the car to KM recently for my 2nd service and I was able to recreate the symptoms I faced in Phuket. Every time when I stopped on a downhill the vibrations were heavy, depending on the steepness of the downhill the vibrations varied, more steep more vibration. When the service adviser tested the test Odyssey in the showroom, it also had the same problem with gear box. It was a certain that there is some problem with the gearbox which is recurring in all Odysseys, based on the feedback I received from other Honda owners (excluding Odyssey), they did no had this issue. It seems that the issue is only with Odyssey.
KM have assured me that they will look into this discuss with their engineers and get back. Apart from this I am happy with the car, even with this issue, I am positive that Honda will resolve it. I would anytime recommend this car to my friends.

I have been driving the previous model for the past 4 yrs. For an MPV this is one ride that gives u excellent handling and power. on long trips u even forget that ur driving a 'soccerI have been driving the previous model for the past 4 yrs. For an mpv this is one ride that gives u excellent handling and power. On long trips u even forget that ur driving a 'soccer-moms' car. Such is the excellent engine although there is some notable lag time frm when u floor the pedal for it to actually kick in. But honestly, its an mpv so we have to be realistic here. At cruising speed this car is absolutely brilliant, a good car to take up north with it stability and no problems at all driving it up to 170 to 180km/h. My only issue is that since its a long car, when u step a lil too hard on the brakes the car jerks forward more than necessary. Another issue is that fuel economy isnt that great, i understand that it a 2.4 litre car so im not asking much but i average between 7.5 to 8km/l. But when driving it light footed im able to get abt 9km/l... Dont let this long car fool u, for an mpv it actually allows u to drive this baby spiritedly. It feels like ur driving a sedan. Not many mpvs allow u that... Such was the performance and durability of the previous odyssey engine. This review is based upon the previous Odyssey before Kah Motor brought in this new model.
The Odyssey's low platform and wishbone suspensions are excellent for comfort. It makes me feel like I am driving a normal sedan rather than a MPV. The styling of this car is great and I am really impressed.
The driving experience of this car is rather good. The engine is rather quiet but it the sound damping of the cabin needs to be improved. The seats are extremely comfortable for it's class and have 2nd and 3rd row air conditioning brings the comfort up one stage. The dashboard and gauges are bright and have excellent visibility at night.
Reliability is excellent. No problems at all until the day when we were about to sell it, the Airbags/Seat belt tensioners start failing. The dashboard keeps lighting the icon up. Other than that, reliability is excellent.
Now, for the downsides of this car. I have nothing to complain about the styling. However, the boot opening is a little bit awkward. It is kinda, round; making it difficult to put things in. (This is improved in this new 2009 model) Other than that, 3rd row automatic folding seats are excellent and hassle free.
Next, FC. As rated here, 11.2km/l is really different from what I experienced. With combined highway and city driving, it can be as bad as 4.8km/l from the meter reading. I am not sure if there is a fault with the computer reading but my dad himself feels that we are visiting the petrol station more often. Having 4.8km/l for a 2.4L i-VTEC is really bad. I guess it is improved in this new model as stated by Honda.
The next problem is safety. 2 airbags for the driver & front passenger are definitely not enough. Side and curtain airbags would be greatly appreciated for a family car. The whole family have to be protected. Not just front passengers.
The last problem for me is the power of this car. Once again, it is improved in the new model. The old model has 160bhp and only 218nm of Torque. BHP does not matter to me but the amount of pulling power (218nm) is disappointing for an MPV. When going up a little steep hill, the car loses breath easily. Other than that, normal driving is excellent.
All in all, this car is superb. I strongly recommend it to people looking for a sedan like MPV. (:
Owned this car from 2004 and sold it in 2009 to change to the Volvo XC90.
