Bought this in Nov 2013. I was initially satisfied with the car, until I hit around 16k mileage when the gearbox started to judder at low gears. Sent it in and was told that the gearbox had failed the clutch adaption test. Changing of gearbox was just the first of many parts which were subsequently replaced.

Parts changed under warranty thus far (car age of only 2.5 years) : clutch plates, left coil springs, steering rack, stabilisation bar, top mount and bearing, temperature sensor.

Some abnormal steering noises remain and the technical team just brushed it aside as normal operating noises. Poor after sales service is a recurrent problem despite many promises given by their company.

After all, if a company cheats in emissions testing, I really can't expect that much from them. Truly regretted buying volkswagen. Buy at your own risk!

What I like
Decent drive
Ncap 5 stars
Relatively fuel efficient

What I do not like
VERY POOR RELIABILITY
BUILD QUALITY NOT GREAT
POOR AFTER SALES

Registered a 2013 Touran Base Model in late Nov 2013.

So far, it fits well to the function of human mover Coupled with challenges.

All the best if you intend to own 1.

What I like
Lower engine cc = lower road tax
Good FC, an average of 12.5km/ltr (mixed city and highway)
Powerful Engine, Good pick up.

What I do not like
High Engine oil consumption, average have to do a full top up every 8000km.

Juddering issue, clutch was adapted but have to be replaced.
(Considering it is a relatively young car)
Downtime : 1 day for Adaptation and 3 days over weekend for clutch replacement.

No replacement car offered but can rent from them subjected to availability.

Bought my VW Touran Comfort 1.4 TSI back in Nov 2013. I have clocked 17k mileage without much problems. This MPV is certainly safe with 10 airbags and NCAP 5 star rating. (sgcarmart states that touran has 6 airbags, but the current Touran model has actually 10 airbags! No joke!). I have been in an accident with a BMW 5 series recently, the Touran was certainly hardly enough to withstand a knock from the BMW without much damage. The car even features 3 point seat belts for the third row.

Mileage is reasonable. A combination of city and highway driving gives me a mileage of around 10.5-11.5 km/L. You can never expect the mileage which is stated in the showrooms though :)

The drive of the Touran is responsive and punchy. I am driving the comfort version with 140bhp and am certainly not disappointed by the acceleration. I am not a speed freak, so I didn't opt for the Touran Sport. But the acceleration of 9.5s is already much faster than the other MPV rivals. In fact, it is faster than most MPVs except VW Sharan, Ford S-MAX/galaxy.

The length of the car is shorter compared to the usual rivals like Citroen C4, Grand Scenic, Wish, 5008, Stream, S-Max etc. However, the internal space isn't much less compared to its rivals. The only downside is the boot space is remarkably reduced when the third row seats are up. Space at the first and second row are definitely sufficient for everyday use.

Overall, a MPV worth buying in view of the excellent safety features and punchy drive!

What I like
1. Very safe car!! 10 AIRBAGS with 5 star NCAP rating
2. Punchy drive, faster acceleration compared to its rivals like C4, Wish, 5008, Stream, Grand Scenic. DSG gearbox when working well is a breeze.
3. Very good visibility at the driver seat, steering is high which is good for tall drivers!
4. Panoramic sunroof. Good for kids.
5. Solid ride quality compared to Japanese MPV. Feels grounded despite its height. Does not wobble when cornering tight corners despite its height.
6. Very decent fuel economy. Around 10.5-11.5km/L for mixed driving
7. Excellent headroom bcos of its height. Good for tall drivers once again.
8. VW service isn't as great as Toyota. But it certainly wasn't as bad as touted by some. Service staff are generally responsive. Servicing dates are available within 4-5 working days currently.

What I do not like
1. Small boot space when third row seats are up.
2. Dashboard is outdated compared to Citroen C4
3. Car length could be longer. It is only 4.4m long
4. Rear passenger doors tend to slam loudly when closed
5. Unknown reliability of DSG gearbox. (but it does come with 5 year warranty)

My family is contributing to our population growth thus found a need to have a bigger car but yet has to be economical in terms of FC/Road Tax/Insurance. Test drove the usual suspects which compromises of 5008, C4, Wish and Mazda 5 (Stream getting dated) and found among the 5, the Touran (Sports) is really exhilarating. The functional seats, sun roof (my son adored it!), compartment space and safety features are what stands out from the rest. The engine pick up is smooth and did not stutter even with 7 members on board during the test drive - sweet!

What I like
1) 170 BHP
2) Sun roof - even for the rear!
3) 2nd row aircon vent
4) Multi function steering wheel
5) RNS510
6) Quiet!
7) Good FC
8) High seating profile similar to that of a SUV

What I do not like
1) Unknown reliability of 7 DSG
2) VCS do not have a good track record of customer service
3) DLR comes at a whooping $3.5k extra!
4) No ISOFIX at the centre seat
5) Middle hump on the second row floor bed

Was forced to buy a 7-seater to accommodate brother's growing horde (he doesn't have a car and prefers to pile everyone into mine). For me, I got the Sports tsi and I'm enjoying driving it. Pickup is FAST, especially when you consider it's a 1.4. Consumption for me ranges between 12 and 14.6 km/l, pretty good for the car parks ... oops, roads....I have to drive through on the way to work. It's mostly smooth riding - so much so my nephew hates the car because it doesn't feel as fast as my old Honda Airwave. There are tons of toys for the tech gadget lover, from auto park (great for those lots with idiot drivers who park ON or OVER the line!), to voice controlled radio, and multifunction steering wheel. Huge boot is a massive plus, although I'm getting tired of crawling in to retrieve my umbrella. No one wants to crawl into the 3rd row of seats, but then, no one ever does. And it's not a deal breaker for me, since I'm the driver and never have to sit there!

What I like
1. Loads of tech gadgets - I like playing with them. And scaring the drivers in the car park lots next to mine when I use the auto park feature. With my hands in the air.
2. Good consumption
3. Comfortable ride
4. My 3 yr old nephew loves the fold down seat trays. Go figure.

What I do not like
1. I don't understand why I have to keep selecting the air-con circulate button each time I freaking start the car!
2. Half second delay when moving off from stationary position
3. That little cushion ledge at the right side of the driver's seat. Already hard enough to get in and out due to the height - that cushion just makes it worse, especially if I'm wearing a skirt.
4. No place for a full-length umbrella at driver's seat. So I'm expected to get wet running to the boot when it rains?!?

Am driving the no-frills 1.4 basic model for a year and a half, so far no issues. For its price it does pretty well against equivalent rival models.

What I like
1. Spacious. Third row can fit adults but may be cramp for long distances.
2. Higher profile - Easier to see the road and also people don't need to bend so much to get into the car
3. Good all-around view, big side mirrors and the left one tilts down when reversing.
4. Good acceleration - Overtaking is not a problem

What I do not like
1. Half second delay when moving off from stationary position
2. Tends to rollback more on a slope
3. E-brake doesn't stop that quickly.
4. I don't smoke so the 12V cigarette lighter on the front console is a bit of a hassle because I need to remove the hot cap and place it somewhere safe.
5. 2nd row aircon a little weak.
6. Glove compartment is a little small.

The car is excellent in handling and comfort. It does not drive like a chunky MPV but more like a sedan.

But beware of the reliability of the vehicle. I've my clutch replaced and gear box replacement is in the works. Luckily it's still under warranty repair. Getting a servcing date and replacement date can take ages (1 month advance booking is required)

Quality of aftersale depends alot on the service advisor you get.

What I like
Drive

What I do not like
Reliabilty & long wait for aftersale service.

The Car is comfortable and has enough torque and power.

Gas guzzler but it is expected as with the engine specs. It is not economical unless solely used for highway driving.

Design takes some getting use to.

What I like
Power & Torque
Comfortable
Spacious for class
Pretty good Sales service when buying car.

What I do not like
Extremely poor after sales service in the technical/servicing area
Expect the service department to try their best at evading you at all possible cost. Promise that they will call but will not. And suit their own time and fancy as to when to contact you. In fact, i have always had to call them numerous times and not get anyone but the receptionist who cannot do anything but input your request.
Transmission/Gear box is fundamentally flawed whether 6 speed or 7 speed. But there will not be any admittance to that. Do your own homework online and see for yourself before committing to buy.

I've previously own a toyota wish and subaru exiga (not turbo) , wish being very economical and exiga is absolutely stable car at fast speed.

I'm now driving a VW Touran and I have both stability in handling as well as fuel economy.

What I like
Lower engine capacity, lesser road tax and

What I do not like
the space could hv been a little bigger. All good otherwise.

The ride is nicely supple without being sick-makingly floaty, and among the compact MPVs the Touran offers excellent space and great seats. For the driver, the best bits are a comfy driving position and a good view out. The Touran looks like a fridge, and is as cool as a fridge. Not literally, of course. There are some rough edges around the seat mountings and the lower dash, but basic quality isn't too bad. Good for the class, slightly off-form by VW standards. On the move, it's a mixed bag. The ride really isn't great despite the much vaunted multi-link rear axle from the MkV Golf. The Touran's greater size and weight has diminished the advantages of that system, and the car seems more brittle and prone to picking up imperfections in the road than the nimble hatchback with which it shares so many mechanical gubbins. But general levels of refinement are still excellent, particularly on the motorway where the Touran settles into a smoother stride, devoid of excessive wind or tyre noise. The steering is very light - to much for slower stuff - but it finds a happier balance at speed. Plenty of head and legroom for everyone, and the Touran has the added advantage of being a seven seater. When not in use, the third row folds flat into the floor, leaving a huge 695 litres of space. And even with one rear seat in use, it's still big enough for an industrial-sized pushchair to fit in sideways. And unlike many seven-seat compact MPVs, when the third row of seats are in use there's still a useful 121 litres of space for the shopping.
