A trailer driver has been slapped with a $5,000 fine and barred from driving for three years for negligent driving. The Straits Times reported that trailer driver, Leong Chin Nyan, failed to give way to motorcyclist, Mr. William Choong, when turning right into the minor road of Tuas South Street 5 towards Tuas View Crescent. The incident occurred at a T-junction without a traffic light at 8:43am on 1st June last year.
Mr. Choong, who was going straight on his motorcycle in the opposite direction, collided with the left rear of Leong's trailer. The impact seriously injured Mr. Choong and damaged his green Kawasaki Kips motorcycle. The English daily added that Mr. Choong fell to the ground in the middle of the junction and was pronounced dead on scene just after 9:00am.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Kavita Uthrapathy, left the sentence to the court while Leong's lawyer, Raymond Ng, asked for leniency for his client. Leong who pleaded guilty, could have been sentenced to a two-year jail term and a fine.
