Two major projects to ease congestion on the TPE and the Bukit Timah area

A new one-way viaduct will be built along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) to offer motorists a direct connection to the westbound Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and also to Upper Changi Road East, reported The Straits Times.
The approximately 1.5km viaduct will "alleviate the congestion currently experienced at this stretch of TPE", a Land Transport Authority (LTA) spokesman said. Existing junctions linking Upper Changi Road East, Upper Changi Road North, PIE and TPE will also be improved. The tender for this project will close in May.
Separately, the road network around Jalan Anak Bukit will be improved with the construction of a 400-metre city-bound, three-lane carriageway between Jalan Jurong Kechil and Clementi Road. This will provide motorists with an alternative city route. For example, those coming from Toh Yi will be able to use this road to go to Dunearn Road, instead of having to make the circuitous route using Jalan Anak Bukit. This will help to distribute traffic away from the busy Jalan Anak Bukit and Jalan Jurong Kechil intersection.
As part of the project, the Jalan Anak Bukit slip road leading to the PIE will be widened. Also, the stretch of Jalan Jurong Kechil between Toh Tuck Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road will be upgraded from two lanes to three in both directions. The LTA said the improvements will also benefit other commuters, as bus services in the area will be able to operate more efficiently.
Cycle paths along Jalan Jurong Kechil, Jalan Anak Bukit and Upper Bukit Timah Road will be also built. These will allow connections to future paths under the National Cycling Plan to form an islandwide off-road cycling network of over 700km. The tender for this project will close this month.
