Following on from the successful launch of the new Passat sedan in Singapore last year, Volkswagen is now adding the Passat Variant to the local model lineup. With the launch of the new car, there is now a total of five distinct Passat models available in Singapore, completing the full model range.
Having won a Red Dot Design Award for its outstanding design, the Passat Variant has gained noticeably in presence, exclusivity and dynamism, while preserving all of its functional virtues. The standard R-Line exterior styling package includes R-Line bumpers in a striking, sporty look, a dedicated radiator grille with R-Line logo, side sill extensions, a roof edge spoiler, a black gloss diffuser and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The improved luggage space, up 47 litres to 650 litres, adds to the car's practicality. The boot space is also easily configurable with its variable load floor and the multitude of storage compartments for smaller items. Both the tailgate and luggage cover are electrically operated, so they can be used effortlessly.
The new Active Info Display comes as standard on the Passat Variant, with all instruments implemented virtually by software. Information on driving and assistance functions can be integrated into the graphic areas of the speedometer and rev counter as needed. The Passat Variant also has the latest connectivity features on board. The 'Discover Pro' navigation system comes with App-Connect, which makes it possible to integrate numerous smartphone apps or functions into the infotainment system. Another new feature is the camera-based surroundings visualisation system, Area View. It was developed to enable a 360-degree overview of the close surroundings and traffic situation.
Underneath the bonnet of the Passat Variant is a 2.0-litre TSI engine with 220bhp and 350Nm of torque. Combined with the quick-shifting six-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), the car accelerates from 0-100km/h in only 6.9 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 244km/h. The Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system offers three driving modes - Comfort, Normal and Sport.
