Honda is marketing the Clarity Fuel Cell as the ultimate environmentally responsible Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) or a possible alternative to Toyota's Mirai. First seen at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the Clarity Fuel Cell made its first appearance in Asia during the opening of the Honda booth at Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2016, held in Tangerang, August 11th, 2016.
The fuel cell powertrain was made as compact as a 3.6-litre V6 engine, and therefore made it possible to consolidate it under the hood of a sedan-type vehicle. According to Honda, the Clarity Fuel Cell is the world's first five-passenger sedan type fuel cell vehicle powered by Honda's original fuel cell compact powertrain fuelled with hydrogen.
Combined with the improved efficiency of the powertrain and a reduced energy requirement for driving, a 70Mpa high-pressure hydrogen storage tank installed to this vehicle provides a cruising range of approximately 750km, an increase of approximately 30 percent compared to the previous FCV model, to achieve the world's top-class cruising range among all zero-emission vehicles.
The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell's electric motor has an output of 174bhp and 300Nm of max torque, while its fuel cell stack generates 138bhp.
As part of its 'cutting-edge appeal', the Clarity Fuel Cell features an exterior design which combines dynamism and elegance. With a concept of 'Bold and Aero', the FCV model features a wide and low body, while its refined form suggests outstanding aerodynamic performance. Completing the look are full LED head lights with a sharp and slender profile and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
