Jeep takes us off-road in the Jeep 'No Road' Experience
06 Oct 2016|4,378 views
Extolling on-road comfort as well as content levels and interior comfort that matches ever-changing lifestyles and tastes, Jeep wanted us to experience what being behind the wheel of a bona fide Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is really like.
In the first episode of the Jeep 'No Road' Experience series, we saw ourselves in Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, behind the wheel of vehicles in the Jeep range - including the iconic Wrangler model, and versatile Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk - and in a simulated off-road environment.
Crossing over
The adventure started with a leisurely drive from the Jeep Singapore showroom, across the causeway, and on to JB in convoy. During which, we experienced the on-road comfort of Jeep vehicles - a combination of engaging performance coupled with a smooth and refined ride.
Once in JB, the day's events kicked off with a simulated river crossing exercise to demonstrate Jeep's water fording capability - the ability to drive-through a body of water without self-destructing. We were guided across soft and wet ground to experience the full power of the 4x4 capabilities of the Wrangler and Cherokee Trailhawk.
The exercise continued with a series of bumps crossing, which showcased the vehicles' ability to climb through uneven grounds while maintaining good traction in its tyres. The traction helped us maintain controlled forward motion. The man-made obstacle also demonstrated Jeep's superior suspension systems, that maintained a comfortable ride regardless of the terrain.
A superlative SUV
Whether it's climbing steep sand dunes or mastering muddy two-tracks, much of the Wrangler's allure has been its unmatched off-road prowess. Using beefy Dana solid axles at each end, the Wrangler possesses a tight turning radius and capable off-road agility, aided by electronic features such as hill start assist, downhill descent control, traction control, and roll mitigation.
One of the most exciting exercises of the day was the hair-raising 30-degree hill descent, a rare treat for us urbanites. With optimised approach, departure and breakover angles designed to clear logs, rocks and uneven ground, the Hill Descent Control feature on the Jeep enabled it to take on the steep descent semi-autonomously without us having to put our feet on the brakes.
In control
To further showcase the Jeep's 4x4 system, we were treated to a series of potholes. Here, the Jeep's suspension systems make sure that whenever one or more wheels are elevated, the others stay on the ground longer. This keeps the vehicle moving, and prevents us from getting stuck.
Jeep's all-weather, all-terrain capabilities take drivers to destinations that others dream of. From the city's gleaming streets to the challenging terrain of the great outdoors, Jeep's legendary capabilities and authentic style are fortressed with the latest design technology, giving drivers and passengers a sense of security to handle any journey with confidence.
