The all new Volkswagen Tiguan hits town
10 Jan 2017|7,028 views
Today marked the launch of Volkswagen's all new Tiguan. Marketed as a great all-rounder with distinctive styling, the new Tiguan is also the company's first Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) to be based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), which currently underpins the Golf, Sportsvan, Passat and Touran.
The Tiguan Highline 280 TSI is powered by a 150bhp 1.4-litre TSI engine with 250Nm of torque, and comes with front-wheel drive. Top up $27,000 more and you get the Tiguan R-Line 380 TSI with permanent all-wheel drive or what the company refers to as 4MOTION. This higher end version has a 220bhp 2.0-litre TSI engine with 350Nm of torque. You also get extra equipment such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Dynamic Chassis Control System and 'Dynaudio Excite Surround' sound system. A TDI version is said to be coming as well.
The Open Market Value (OMV) for the 1.4-litre Highline is about $33,000. Comparing this with its predecessor, it's some $6,000 more, which comes as no surprise considering the ample standard features that now come with the car. The 2.0-litre R-Line, on the other hand, sports an OMV of about $40,000.
Both prices listed include a special launch discount of $5,000 off, valid until 18th January 2017 at 12:00pm. This promotion will still be on during the Singapore Motor Show 2017, so be sure to attend if you're looking to purchase one of Europe's safest cars.
The new Tiguan is Volkswagen's first SUV to be based on the MQB - this allows for a dynamic synthesis of design, comfort and functionality. The proportions of the new Tiguan were made to be significantly more dynamic, including a lowered body (33mm reduction), longer wheelbase (at 2,681mm, it is 77mm longer than its predecessor) and larger wheels.
On the exterior, the Tiguan's sharp lines show solidarity and precision while on the road, and its LED projection head lights deliver 10 percent better lighting performance compared to regular halogen head lights. In perfect harmony with the expressive exterior is an interior designed to combine excellent space and flexibility of use, allowing for comfort under all road conditions. It has a rear bench that allows 180mm of adjustment - 20mm more than the previous model.
Innovative safety technologies and assistance systems are integrated as standard. This includes Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, proactive occupant protection, and an active bonnet to help safeguard pedestrians and cyclists. The Tiguan is not a crossover between different worlds - rather, it has created its own new and authentic SUV identity, which makes it one of the key product pillars of the Volkswagen lineup.
