Land Rover has announced two new Ingenium petrol engines and a range of enhancements for its Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque compact Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in 2018, boosting the appeal of two of the brand's best-selling vehicles. The 2018 model year Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque both receive the all new Jaguar Land Rover 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engines, offering smooth, refined performance.
The new additions support the company's long-term commitment to reduce vehicle emissions and improve fuel economy across its range. The new four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine is at the heart of the Jaguar Land Rover low-emissions strategy. Designed, engineered and manufactured in the U.K., these are the most advanced engines the company has ever developed; featuring state-of-the-art technologies that deliver exceptional performance and refinement.
The Range Rover Evoque, which has dominated the luxury compact SUV segment since its 2011 launch, has surpassed the 600,000 unit landmark globally. Offering Range Rover luxury and refinement in a compact footprint, the Evoque is available in two bodystyles - a five-door and convertible.
The Discovery Sport is currently the fastest-selling vehicle from Land Rover, with more than 200,000 units sold globally since its introduction in 2014. The premium versatile compact SUV demonstrates the breadth of Land Rover ability, offering customers unrivalled all-terrain capability, versatility for up to seven people and a premium interior.
For 2018, a number of enhancements have been made, perhaps the most significant of which is the addition of two new available Ingenium petrol four-cylinder engines, which replace the previous single-output GTDi petrol engine. A 237bhp Ingenium petrol engine paired to a ZF nine-speed automatic transmission generates 340Nm of torque and is standard in all bodystyles of the Range Rover Evoque, as well as the Discovery Sport.
A higher output 286bhp Ingenium petrol engine, available with the five-door Evoque's HSE Dynamic and Autobiography trims only, generates 400Nm of torque, helping it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 232km/h. It is also available on the Discovery Sport's HSE and HSE Luxury trims only and helps to accelerate the Discovery Sport from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds.
