Hyundai reveals details about its new Sonata

Leaked pictures of the Sonata has been spotted on the Internet, as Hyundai prepares the Sonata for is domestic market launch on September 10, having already started taking orders for the car.

The new Sonata features a four-door-coupe-like roofline and a big chrome grille similar to the one seen on the new Tucson/ix35. There is even talk that the Sonata might be renamed the ix40 for certain markets.

The new Sonata will be available with a 2.0-litre Theta II four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This gives the Sonata a fuel consumption figure of 7.8 litres per 100km.

Further engines will be added to the range, with a V6 engine, and Hyundai´s latest "R" turbo diesels expected to be available for the Sonata soon after.

Hyundai claims that the overall comfort of its new mid-size sedan has been enhanced through the introduction of new technologies and "premium specifications" such as a panoramic sunroof, gear shift paddles attached to the steering wheel, and a push-button starting system while the Vehicle Dynamic Control will now be offered (at least in Korea) as a standard feature.
