The latest exercise involves 34,931 Dodge Caliber models and about 90 Jeep Compass SUVs from around 2007, and the problem revolves the cars' accelerator pedals, which were manufactured by CTS Corp, the same company that made the pedals found on the recalled Toyota vehicles.
Chrysler says that the exact problem was a bearing housing that was made too large, which could cause unintended acceleration. The carmaker had informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding the recall exercise, and will offer to fix the problem for free to affected owners.
