  • Renault Latitude to be the new flagship Renault

Renault has unveiled the Latitude, their new flagship sedan that is based on their South Korean partner Samsung's SM5 sedan

The Latitude effectively replaces the slow-selling and unpopular Vel Satis, which has been discontinued, and will sit at the top of Renault's model range as their latest flagship luxury sedan. Renault says that the Latitude is "its latest international status-enhancing family saloon", and will showcase the car at the Moscow and Paris Motor Shows in August and September respectively.

The Latitude is based on the Samsung SM5, which was recently launched in South Korea by Renault's Korean partner Samsung. The Latitude uses a modified version of the Laguna's platform, and is a conventional four-door sedan instead of a five-door fastback like its predecessors the 25, Safrane and Vel Satis.

Measuring 4.890mm in length, 1.830mm in width and 1.490mm in height, the Latitude is 195mm longer, 19mm wider and 45mm taller than the Laguna. Engine details have not been released, but the usual range of petrol and diesel units are expected to be made available.

Renault says the Latitude will have a number of features that place the emphasis "on innovation and travelling comfort", including a dual-mode air ionizer with double fragrance diffuser, triple-zone climate control, a massaging driver's seat, Bose Premium audio and the Renault hands-free card, among others. The Latitude will go on sale this autumn in Asia, Africa, Russia, Turkey, Gulf, Australia and Mexico, with Europe to follow shortly after.
