  • Volkswagen to launch LWB Tiguan in China

Volkswagen is set to launch a long wheelbase version of their Tiguan off-roader in China, which is 113mm longer than the standard Tiguan

The Chinese market has always been receptive to long wheelbase models, and Volkswagen is joining the crowd by releasing a long wheelbase version of its TIguan off-roader exclusively for China. The extended car has a wheelbase of 2684mm, which is 80mm longer than the standard car.

Despite the extended length, the Tiguan LWB's wheelbase is still some 16mm shorter than China's best selling SUV, the locally-made Great Wall Haval H3. The overall length of the LWB Tiguan is now 4540mm, 113mm longer than the standard Tiguan, but still 214mm shorter than its Touareg bigger sibling, and 80mm shorter than the Haval H3.

The Tiguan LWB also features some minor cosmetic changes, such as a redesigned front end with new headlights, bumper and grille. However, Volkswagen says that the updated look is meant for the Chinese market only, with the European facelift for the Tiguan having a different look and set to be
unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
