Toyota's sports car lineup has seen a slight change of fortunes following their earlier introduction of the GT 86. Riding on that wave of resurgence, the carmaker is now reportedly set to give the green light for a successor of the Supra.
According to Motor Trend, this model will ride on the same chassis that underpinned the GRMN MRS prototype. Additional information is limited, but the magazine says power will be provided by a mid-mounted, hybridized 3.5-litre V6 engine and two in-wheel electric motors. The petrol engine would reportedly power the rear wheels, while the electric motors would turn the front. This setup would give the car an all-wheel drive system as well as an output in excess of 400bhp.
That being said, even if the go ahead is officially given, the production model is likely to hit the markets only in 2015, so a long wait may be on the cards for fans.
