BMW wants to change the way EV's are produced
Compared to the jaw dropping BMW i8, the vehicle you see in the gallery, is not close to something BMW will associate itself with. Yet it’s probably the most significant and one of the most meaningful car projects that they’ve have been involved with.
Visio.M MUTE concept, developed by Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM) has the involvement of partners from the German auto industry, headed by BMW. The concept is developed to determine the feasibility of developing an efficient, mass-market electric vehicle that ensures the same level of safety and affordability as the combustion vehicles of today. The project recently received €10.8 (S$17.44) million in funding from the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).
The MUTE is the prototype model that will play a critical role in determining how it can handle new technologies for a future, mass-produced vehicle. The car has an output of only 20hp and weighs about 400 kg without the batteries.
BMW has released this initial photo of the MUTE prototype though how much from the concept might make production is unknown and no release date has been issued.
