Honda has released the first pictures of the 2013 Accord, ahead of its scheduled launch later this year.

Sporting evolutionary styling, the model has a "sophisticated exterior designed to stand the test of time." Starting up front, there's a new grille which is flanked by slimmer headlights. The sedan also features additional chrome trim, while the coupe is distinguished by unique bumpers and revised lighting units. The Japanese automaker is claiming that this is "the most sculpted Accord yet'.

Interior pictures were excluded from this media release, but the Accord will be reportedly offered with the new HondaLink infotainment system. It tethers to a smartphone to access internet-based radio stations, podcasts and Facebook / Twitter posts.

Under the hood, engine options will include a 2.4-litre Earth Dreams four-cylinder with approximately 181bhp and 240Nm of torque and a 3.5-litre V6 with approximately 310bhp and 359Nm of torque.

Additionally, a plug-in hybrid variant which has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine, a 161bhp electric motor, a 6kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric continuously variable transmission (E-CVT) will also be offered. This will enable the model to travel 16-24 km on electricity alone at speeds up to 100 km/h. When the battery is depleted, it can be fully recharged in less than four hours using a 120V outlet or less than 1.5 hours using a 240V outlet.
