Just ahead of its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, Kia has pulled the silk off its all-new Carens MPV. The third generation of the Carens, which in its previous form was marketed worldwide under various nameplates, including the Rondo, sports a fresh and far more modern design than the model it replaces.
Kia says that the new compact MPV has been developed from the ground-up and it's an entirely new car - designed and engineered to meet the needs of modern families. "The new Carens builds on the family-friendly versatility and functionality of its predecessor, and features more athletic and visually dynamic design," says Hyoung-Keun Lee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Kia. "This marks a dramatic shift forward for our MPV contender and brings the model in line with Kia’s distinctive current design direction."
Kia is keeping mum on the details of the car, but the Carens reportedly not only looks like a minivan variant of the Cee'd hatchback, but is also based on a modified version of its platform and is likely to share the same engine lineup. The 2013 Kia Carens will also be capable of accommodating up to seven people thanks to its long wheelbase, with the interior cabin providing stylish and spacious practicality, according to the carmaker.
The new Carens will be showcased in Paris along with the new pro_cee'd and two model versions that up until now were not available in Europe, the Sorento with an all-new 2.4-litre GDI engine and the Optima Hybrid with a new 2.0-litre engine.
