A 62-year old lawyer has been fined S$2,000 on top of getting barred from driving for 18 months for drink driving. Mr Dennis Chua Soon Chai who runs his own law firm, pled guilty to the charges for the offence that occurred at 4:25am along Balestier Road on the 8th of November last year.

Drink driving is a serious traffic offense but the light sentence passed by District Judge John Ng took into consideration that Mr Chua was neither speeding nor driving recklessly. He also noted Mr Chua's breathalyser test results deduced the lawyer's alcohol level to be only seven points above the legal limit - at 42mg per 100ml of breath.

Still to quote the traffic police - do not drive to drink, and you wouldn't drink drive.
