The COE quotas for the next six months will be further reduced for car buyers.
According to figures released by LTA, there will be 3,211 COEs per month from the periods of February to July 2013 - a mild decrease from 3,226 quotas during the periods of August 2012 to January 2013.
In each category breakdown:
Category A (for cars up to 1,600cc); the monthly quota will be 667 from the current 786.
Category B (cars above 1,600cc); the monthly quota will dip to 605 from 701.
Category E (Open category) will be reduced to 476 quotas from 485.
On the contrary commercial vehicles and motorcycles will have an increase in their COE quotas. There will be 451 quotas for commercial vehicles - up from the current 360 - while motorcycles will be entitled 1,012 quotas monthly from the current 894 quotas.
With COEs already reaching record prices, the reduction in the number of quotas and the reduced car population growth will no doubt drive COE prices beyond a six-figure sum.
