Diesel powered cars sold in Singapore are compliant to the Euro 5 standards. As such the ultra-low sulphur diesel fuels sold here contain only 50 ppm (parts per million) of sulphur whereas diesel fuel sold in Malaysia is compliant only to Euro 2 standards and thus have a high 500 ppm count. Diesel fuel with 50 ppm standards are expected to be implemented only in 2015.
"It is not recommended for the new Kia Sorento Diesel to use Malaysian diesel as it is of a much lower grade. If lower grade diesel is used, it may cause engine clogging and misfiring issues, and perhaps other related problems as well," said Chin Kee Min, Senior Manager of Cycle & Carriage Kia, to The Business Times.
