A man was killed after the lorry he was travelling in was involved in an accident with a car on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) towards Tuas early Friday morning. The 29-year old, a construction worker from India, was seated at the rear of the lorry when a car rear-ended it and caused it to tilt over.
Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry flipped on its side and skidded for 50m before coming to a stop. The car's bonnet was ripped off as a result of the crash.
12 others on the lorry, as well as the driver of the car and his female passenger were injured and sent to hospital for treatment by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) ambulances.
The SCDF said a call for assistance was received at about 7:24am and dispatched four ambulances and one fire bike to the scene.
Three lanes on that stretch of the expressway were closed for the Traffic Police to collect evidence as well as clear the debris.
