If the rumours are true (and hopefully they are), iconic British automaker Jaguar could be working on its most powerful car ever - a 600bhp F-Type - though it will not reach production until at least 2016. It is expected to be powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 akin to the unit in the XJR and XKR-S GT despite the increased bhp and torque output.
Jaguar's boss, Adrian Hallmark, acknowledged plans for more limited edition models following the footsteps of the XKR-S GT. He also revealed during the developing phase of the aforementioned car that more powerful variants of the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine were developed.
Cars bearing the GT badge are developed under Jaguar Land Rover's Engineered To Order (ETO) division and like the XKR-S GT, the 600bhp F-Type will have a limited run for a halo car status. More importantly, Jaguar sees the halo cars as test beds for future technology that can implemented in more mainstream cars.
A concept model is expected to grace the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this year.
