At 9:00 am on January 18th last year, a 45-year old, Yeap, tried to turn into a carpark in Bedok Reservoir Road - where she swayed from the right lane to the left without warning. Yeap's actions were caught by a camera on the bus but Yeap was unaware of the incident until she was interviewed by the Traffic Police several weeks later.
Yeap helps out in her husband's business and had sent her daughter to Temasek Polytechnic that morning.
Due to her actions, the then 57-year old, Mr Koh Chuan Hock, who was one of the four injured, fell on his head and suffered a blood clot in his brain. He needed immediate surgery. According to the The Straits Times, Mr Koh was hospitalised for 20 days after his surgery but suffered some memory loss after the incident.
Defence counsel Selva K. Naidu argued that Yeap had not sustained bad driving on her part and just had a momentary lapse. Mr Naidu also added the injured passengers have made claims against the car's insurer.
She pleaded guilty to inconsiderate driving and was fined $1,000 yesterday. The penalty for inconsiderate driving is a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to a year, or both.
