A Bangladeshi national was hit by a taxi while supervising the laying of underground cables. The taxi later fled the scene, and the 26-year old worker died from his injuries an hour later.
The accident happened last December, but the hit-and-run taxi, which was later identified as a Toyota Crown, has still not been found.
At an inquest into the worker's death, the court heard that Md Abdul Hannan Md Maham Ali was supervising cable laying works when he was hit at 5:05am. When the other workers encountered problems, Md Abdul Hannan then instructed them to proceed to another area, while he stayed behind. He was later found lying on the road with serious injuries.
The Straits Times quoted State Coroner, Imran Abdul Hamid, urging the driver to account for his action, as it was only right to turn himself in.
