Volkswagen
olkswagen Singapore's showroom was filled with over 80 excited MyCarForum (MCF) members and friends last Thursday who were present to experience the many award-winning Volkswagen
models such as the Volkswagen Golf, the Volkswagen Passat and the Volkswagen Sportsvan.

Back in 2013, the Volkswagen Golf won sgCarMart's Hatchback of the Year, while its more powerful sibling, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, won Hot Hatch of the Year. In 2015, the Passat continued the German marque's winning streak by bagging Premium Family Sedan of the Year and most recently, in 2016; the Volkswagen Sportsvan, now rebadged as the Volkswagen Golf SV, won Compact MPV of the Year.

The event offered an opportunity for guests to get a feel of the aforementioned cars, understand the engineering behind them, and the design elements that help make them so special.

After filling their tummies with a sumptuous buffet spread, guests were then treated to a presentation by Chua Ern Kiang, Product Trainer at Volkswagen Group Singapore.

Chua gave them a deeper insight into the brand, its illustrious product history, it's unique selling points, eco driving tips, as well as good driving habits all drivers should have.

For a more personal touch, sgCarMart.com's Senior Automotive Journalist Nigel Yong also shared his stories behind the wheels of Volkswagen's latest crop of cars, and his enjoyable Volkswagen Golf GTI ownership experience.

He said, "The Volkswagen Golf GTI's powerful turbocharged engine, razor-sharp DSG transmission and Dynamic Chassis Control, allow for both comfortable daily driving and cheeky late night sprints when I'm in the mood. It's all the car I'll ever need and I won't be surprised that my next car ends up being another Golf GTI in the years to come."

The fun didn't end there, though. In order for guests to be fully immersed in the Volkswagen experience, the brand also conducted three workshops exclusively organised for its customers.

Using the Volkswagen Passat as an example, the first workshop station saw guests headed to the delivery bay where they were given a lesson on the car's engine compartment and its components.

Subsequently, they gathered around the hoisted car and underneath its undercarriage to learn more about its various mechanical parts. The highly trained aftersales master technician also showed them how a diagnostic tester is used to access the car's reporting and computer system, where any problems are monitored and faults are logged.

The next station brought them around the Volkswagen service centre to check out the workshop facilities where the aftersales service advisor shared some useful car maintenance tips.

Finally, guests returned to the showroom to learn more about the features found in the Volkswagen Golf and Passat. For example, in the Passat 2.0 TSI, they got hands-on with the car's five-programme Driving Profile Selector, 14-way adjustable ergoComfort driver's seat with massage function and Park Assist 3.0, which handles parallel, reverse and forward parking

This station helped affirm that the Volkswagen Golf is no doubt an accomplished player in the field of automotives. It is a great all rounder that boasts high levels of refinement, efficiency and space, which makes it a potent contender in its segment.

Likewise, Volkswagen has spent a lot of time ensuring that the Passat serves up class-leading refinement. Improved in almost every area, the eighth generation Volkswagen Passat has new competitors in its sights. Sharing the same wonderful MQB platform with the Golf, the Passat breathes new life into the premium family sedan market, a class that has lost serious ground to crossover and sport utility vehicle competition.

At the same time, guests were also given tips on how to maximise seating and boot space, as well as the basics of exterior and interior car care.

And of course, no event is complete without test drives and sending lucky winners home with some prizes, which include official Volkswagen Merchandise and a 3D2N drive in a Volkswagen Tiguan.
