The new Lotus F1 Team has had its entry for next season confirmed by the FIA on Tuesday, and will most likely take the place of the departing BMW-Sauber team, who has announced its withdrawal from the sport at the end of the season.
The company behind the new Lotus team is called 1Malaysia F1, and the team will be based in Norfolk, UK, where the headquarters of Lotus Cars, which is owned by Malaysian car manufacturer Proton, is currently located.
The Lotus F1 Team has already announced a series of tie-ups, having hired Mike Gascoygne as its technical director, and agreed a deal with Cosworth for them to supply the team with engines.
The team will be headed by Tony Fernandes, chief executive of Malaysian budget airline AirAsia. The FIA has said that in the near future, the Lotus F1 team will be based at Sepang, Malaysia, near the Sepang International Circuit. |
