The objective of the Driver's Improvement Point System (DIPS) is to identify and suspend dangerous motorists from driving for a specified amount of time.

The Singapore Traffic Police HQ is located in Paya Lebar.

The Driver's Improvement Point System (DIPS) was introduced in March 1983. The objective of this system is to identify and suspend dangerous motorists from driving for a specified amount of time.

The main points of the system is summarized as below
- A driver can accumulate up to 24 demerit points within 24 months before he is suspended from driving.
- A driver, previously suspended, can only accumulate up to 12 demerit points within 12 months before he is liable for another suspension.
- A probationary driver can only accumulate up to 12 demerit points within 12 months otherwise the licence will be revoked. He or she is also not allowed to take any traffic police driving test within 12 months from date of revocation.
- The demerit points awarded take immediate effect on the date of offence.
- Demerit points collected shall remain on record until a licence holder achieves a 12-months offence-free period. Licence holders who maintain a 24-month offence-free record will have all points and previous suspensions expunged from their records.
- No appeals for reduction or waiver of demerits points is allowed.
- Licence is revoked if the driver is suspended from driving for 12 months or longer.
- A driver whose licence is revoked has to re-sit for the theory test and the traffic police driving test to get his or her licence back.
- Drivers with clean driving records for three years will enjoy a 5% discount when renewing their motor insurance policy at participating insurance companies. This discount is on top of the usual No-Claim Bonus or NCD. They must not have made any claims on their vehicles' insurance for the past three years. Those eligible for this scheme will be notified by the Traffic Police.
