Ferrari premiered the evolution of the HY-KERS concept, combining KERS technology to a mid-rear V12 powertrain to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent while not compromising on performance. The second generation HY-KERS features new, smaller and lighter electronic components which achieves a target of 1 KW per kg of extra weight added by the hybrid system.
During braking, the electric motor acts as a generator, using the kinetic energy to recharge the batteries. Work on the system has now reached the end of the experimental phase, with the development phase commencing in the coming months.
