Mazda 787B to head to Goodwood Festival of Speed

Fresh from taking part in the demonstration runs at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Le Mans-winning number 55 Mazda 787B will now be headed to the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The rotary-engined car will be taking on the hill climb at the festival, accompanied by other famous Le Mans contenders and winners as the festival celebrates the centenary of the world-famous endurance race. This will mark the first return of the Mazda 787B to Goodwood since 2015.

Behind the wheel of the 787B will be Le Mans winner Johnny Herbert, who took victory in the car at Le Mans in 1991. Also taking part in the hill climb with the 787B will be Formula One presenter and Grand Prix Driver Karun Chandhok, as well as ex-Mazda IMSA factory driver Harry Tincknell.

Mazda only recently returned to the use of rotary power with the MX-30 R-EV plug-in hybrid, which utilises a 0.8-litre rotary engine as a generator to give the crossover a total range of 643km.
