An upgraded suspension improves the handling and adapts to different track conditions. Aerodynamic aid comes from a carbon front splitter, a rear diffuser and a boot spoiler. The exhaust note has been enhanced with a sports exhaust system with twin central tailpipes. On the inside, you get Recaro seats and carbon enhancements to cut off weight.
The car also comes equipped with slick tyres and roll hoops behind the seats for track use. Joining the concept will be the Mazda Takeri sedan concept, along with the recently launched Mazda CX-5 compact SUV.
"This year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed we have a number of significant cars on the stand and contesting the hillclimb. The MX-5 has been our best known car for 22 years and with the GT4 and GT Concept on show, we are demonstrating that this car can compete with the more expensive race and performance cars but still remain true to its roots of affordable motoring with a strong focus on the driving experience," said Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda UK.
Mazda will debut its road legal, 205bhp MX-5 GT Concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which will run this weekend. The Miata Concept will be on display at the Mazda's stand, and will take part in the hillclimb under the 'First Glance' category.
The concept is inspired by Mazda's MX-5 GT race programme and the debut at the festival, helps Mazda study customer reactions to a high performance Miata. Built by Jota Sport, the MX-5 GT Concept produces 205bhp from a normally aspirated 2.0-litre Mazda petrol engine mated to a standard manual transmission.
