The good news is that Mazda is releasing a more performance-focused version of the new MX-5, the Roadster RS, that is sure to delight MX-5 fans everywhere. The bad news is that this particular version will only be available in Japan.
The new RS version of the Mazda Roadster features a number of performance upgrades, including Bilstein dampers and front suspension tower brace for better handling, along with bigger brakes for added stopping power, a retuned steering rack for sharper turn-in, and upgraded exhaust for a better sound. Inside, it's also been treated to heated Recaro seats with Nappa leather and Alcantara trim and a nine-speaker Bose audio system. It also comes equipped with adaptive front lighting and high-beam control as well as lane departure and blind spot warning systems.
The Mazda Roadster RS only comes with the smaller 1.5-litre engine that produces 129bhp, and the performance upgrades does not actually touch the engine and/or the car's power output. But there is no denying that it could well be the enthusiast's favourite edition of the new Roadster. An enthusiast living in Japan, that is.
