After declaring Dynisma as its Official Motion Simulator partner in May 2024, McLaren has now confirmed that Atlas Copco, a global pioneer of innovative industrial assembly tooling and software solutions, is now its Official Smart Tooling supplier.
McLaren states that it has worked with Atlas Copco's team of product specialists to enhance its manufacturing and engineering operations within the McLaren Production Centre. The new technologies provided by Atlas Copco are said to have already been integrated into the manufacturing and engineering operations within the McLaren Production Centre.
McLaren has also deployed over 150 of Atlas Copco's battery powered, transducerised digital tools, which are 5G wireless capable and are linked to a controller, providing McLaren with a fully connected and space-optimised production environment. Real-time data insights from Atlas Copco's Smart Integrated Assembly portfolio will also harness artificial intelligence and machine learnings to identify risks in production before they occur.
This collaboration with Atlas Copco will also enable McLaren to automate its bodyshell adhesive application processes. McLaren states that high precision adhesive dispensing and the use of a laser profiling quality inspection system will enable it to enhance efficiency and accuracy at every stage of assembly.
