The Nissan Sunderland Plant is celebrating the completion of its 11 millionth vehicle since production started in 1986.
The landmark car was a Qashqai e-POWER (read our review of the regular Nissan Qashqai here), completed in Blade Silver. Nissan states that its first car built at the facility, a Nissan Bluebird, took close to 22 hours to complete. This Qashqai e-POWER, however, took only 8.5 hours to assemble.
The Nissan Sunderland Plant took on production of the Qashqai e-POWER and Juke Hybrid in mid-2022, adding more electrified options manufactured at the location on top of the Nissan Leaf. Nissan states that 50,000 examples of the 50,000 Qashqai e-POWER and 20,000 examples of the Juke Hybrid have already been built.
The plant is set to additionally manufacture a new electric vehicle as part of Nissan's EV36Zero project, which will see the firm building a 12GWH gigafactory alongside its battery partner Envision AESC, as well as a microgrid that will deliver 100% renewable energy for its activities as well as those of its suppliers.
