Polestar integrates renewable fuels to its supply chain

Polestar has announced that it will be taking steps to reduce its supply chain emissions by utilising renewable fuels on its ocean freight routes. These routes are said to account for 75% of the firm's total transport emissions.
The firm states that it is now operating its vehicle processing centre in Belgium on 100% renewable electricity, while renewable fuel will initially be used for 65% of the outbound ocean freight of produced vehicles from Asia headed to this processing centre. The firm also plans to integrate renewable fuels on its freight from North America later in 2024 as production of the Polestar 3 expands to South Carolina. Emissions from these routes can be reduced by up to 25%, Polestar states, through the use of B30 biofuel compared to conventional sulphur fuel oils.
The firm has also taken steps to decarbonise inter-continental inbound ocean freight for production materials and spare parts distribution, which are now running on 100% fatty acid methyl ester fuel, which is based on renewable sources including waste cooking oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 84% compared to fossil fuel.
