Rolls-Royce deploys new wild seed harvester
24 Oct 2023|182 views
Rolls-Royce's Goodwood Estate is set to become even more green. Literally.
The firm has announced that its wild seed harvester has completed its full season of operations. The harvester has been collecting seeds from different locations on the estate. Once dried, these seeds will be used to improve the biodiversity in both the wild and cultivated grasslands across the estate.
Rolls-Royce already has plans to broadcast sow these seeds in an existing meadow, with the goal of increasing the present population of 49 plant species to 100 or more. The move is the first time large-scale mechanical harvesting of its kind has been employed on the Goodwood Estate - previous seed collection exercises have been restricted to particular species and carried out by hand. This new harvester will make the process more efficient, giving the estate's Gardens Team more time to work on other vital nature-based projects.
Rolls-Royce has been involved in a slew of projects designed to both protect and enhance biodiversity in the area surrounding the Goodwood Estate. These include maintaining its own wildlife garden and the celebrated Goodwood apiary, as well as the planting of over 20,000 trees as part of a wildlife corridor.
