Rosberg leads championship as Marussia score first points after Monaco GP

The Mercedes Team continued their show of dominance in the current season, after securing yet another one-two finish at the glittering Monaco Grand Prix at the hands of German driver Nico Rosberg.


Despite facing two safety car stints, traffic and several yellow flags, Rosberg remained composed to his fifth victory in his F1 career, and his second successive victory at the Monaco circuit.
Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull claimed third just 0.4 seconds behind Hamilton while Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg, of Scuderia Ferrari and Sahara Force India respectively, fill up the top five spots.
Several incidents in yesterday's race aided Felipe Massa in the Williams to finish a strong seventh - after starting 16th on the grid.
The race in the tight and twisty Circuit de Monaco saw eight retirements including defending world champion, Sebastian Vettel, after a turbo failure ended his race prematurely.
After the first corner, Vettel was running third but the turbo unit in his car soon developed issues during the early safety car period. Team principle, Christian Horner, has since apologised to Vettel for the incident as Vettel's title defence in 2014 has been nothing shot of disappointing.


Kimi Raikkonen in the other Ferrari traded two places from sixth and trailed Vettel into the first corner ahead of Ricciardo and Alonso. Despite having a shot at a podium finish at one point, Raikkonen's race was ruined by a number of incidents out of his control.
Raikkonen was clipped by Max Chilton under the second safety car period, which caused a puncture for the former. Later in the race a move on Magnussen ended up with both cars in the barriers at the Loews Hairpin, resulting in a third pit stop for the Finn and an eventual 12th place finish.
The high octane racing action returns in two weeks, on the 8th of June in Canada, with Rosberg leading the Drivers Championship board over Hamilton and Alonso with 112, 118 and 61 points respectively. With 240 points, the Mercedes team are leading the Constructor's Championship by a wide margin over Red Bull and Ferrari - with 99 points and 78 points respectively.

The British driver explained over the radio he had problems with his vision and was unable to push, which allowed Ricciardo at the back to close the pace within 0.5 seconds in the final few laps.
