So much is being said about electric cars and their potential to cut our carbon emissions nowadays, but those that drive combustion engines still can play their part, by keeping their waste to a minimum.
That's the lesson this storyteller took home after spending a day with the SG Swifters, a local Suzuki Swift owners club, for their 2023 Mega Meet.
The members of the SG Swifters club took the morning to rescue cartons of oat milk from heading to the landfill Kicked off in the morning of 7 May 2023, the event saw the club's members gathering at Shell Serangoon Garden to get their tanks filled before partaking in a drive to Jurong Logistics Hub.
But this wasn't simply a casual weekend drive: The journey to the west was conducted in order to collect cartons of oat milk that have gone past their best before date, with the goal being to put them up for collection at locations all throughout Singapore via the GoodHood.SG app.
By doing so, the members of SG Swifters would be helping these cartons of milk no longer fit for sale find consumers, reducing food waste here in Singapore. The rescued food was procured in collaboration with local zero waste recovery group, Divert for 2nd Life (D2L).
Those that participated in the meet also got to see Shell's new and improved fuel formula in action during the drive But that wasn't the only waste that was eradicated that morning. Shell also got the opportunity to highlight how its new and improved fuel formula would give drivers here in Singapore the ability to go further while burning less fuel thanks to a nifty Best Mileage Challenge.
All those from the club that participated in the challenge would return to have their mileage tracked, and their tanks refuelled, so members of the club got to track firsthand the milage that Shell's fuels could offer. And Shell also offered those that scored the greatest fuel economy during the food rescue drive prizes worth up to $1,000!
Want to do your own part to reduce food and other forms of wastage here in Singapore? There's plenty that can also be offered on the GoodHood.SG app, available for download here, while those looking to go further with Shell can find information on its new and improved fuel formula here.
