The future of Corolla previewed at 2025 Japan Mobility Show

Toyota's presentation at its Japan Mobility Show booth emphasised the brand's latest philosophy - 'To You'.
Instead of attempting to create one-size-fits-all products, this ethos focuses on creating solutions for each customer, keeping 'you' in mind as it makes things. And that is the core philosophy that propelled the creation of the new Corolla Concept.
As Toyota puts it, the Corolla has always been 'a car for everyone' - historically, the Corolla has been offered in various body styles and with different powertrain options.
The new Corolla Concept that was showcased at JMS 2025 is in line with the spirit of 'To You' and Toyota’s Multi-Pathway approach. The next-generation Corolla will be developed with provisions for a wide range of powertrain options that includes BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle), HEV (Hybrid Vehicle), ICE (Internal Combustion Vehicle), and FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle).
While little information has been provided about the Corolla Concept, the car that was displayed at the show doesn't appear too far from production.
That said, the flat floor without any transmission or exhaust tunnel implies an electric drivetrain - it is highly possible that the eventual production model, especially the ones with an internal combustion or hybrid powertrain, will look different from the concept and EV models.
However, despite the extremely raked windscreen and sleek silhouette, the Corolla Concept's design, while futuristic, looks entirely plausible to make it to production. It is still a fastback sedan with reasonable proportions - that front end looks like it could even house an engine.
