A 41-year old Singaporean male has been arrested under the suspicion of rash driving after not stopping at a roadblock, which eventually led to an accident, after a car chase.
According to the English daily, the suspect was driving a silver van, with its headlights off, and did not slow down at the roadblock - at Clementi Loop towards the direction of Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) at 2:10am on Sunday - despite repeated signals. Police officers gave chase, and the driver rammed into another vehicle at the junction of Boon Lay Way and Toh Guan Road after running thorough four red lights.
Police officers stopped to aid the other driver while the suspect sped off. It is believed the other driver was not injured in the accident.
The man was caught in three hours, after the police conducted follow-up investigations and identified the suspect. The van driver was arrested near Woodlands Drive 44 at 5:15am the same day.
The police told The Straits Times yesterday, investigations are ongoing and the man is also presumed to have driven without a valid licence. In addition, the van driver is also being investigated for a number of other offences - including failing to stop when ordered by a police officer, driving without insurance coverage, and failing to stop after an accident.
Suspects convicted of rash driving face a maximum punishment of a one-year jail term and a fine of $5,000.
