Vettel's dominant performance secures his fourth Singapore Grand Prix

In an incident-packed race at Marina Bay on Sunday, Vettel put in a dominant performance at the front of the pack to lead from start to finish, claiming his third victory of the season and his fourth in Singapore.
Vettel beat out Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo by 1.4 seconds, with Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen taking third in a Grand Prix punctuated by two safety car incidents, one of the most bizarre fashions.
Vettel got off to a blistering start, getting off the line well and carving out an incredible three-second gap after just one lap. He carried his incredible pace from practice and qualifying into Sunday, building a huge lead ahead of the pack.
The only time the cars behind him got relatively close was during the two safety car periods. The first was on lap 14 when Felipe Massa ran into the side of Nico Hulkenberg whilst exiting the pit lane, sending Hulkenberg into the wall. Hulkenberg was deemed by the stewards to be responsible for the incident and given a three-place grid penalty for the next race.
On the restart, Vettel showed his trademark ability to bunch up the pack before jetting off from the front, immediately carving out a gap after the restart. The safety car made its second appearance on lap 37, when quite bizarrely, a spectator trespassed onto the track at one of the highest speed sections (Esplanade Bridge). Again, Vettel was undeterred and got off well at the restart. In a fairly incident free race for the race leader, Vettel traded fastest lap timings with Ricciardo, but ultimately completed a wire to wire victory.
Championship leader Lewis Hamilton suffered his first retirement of the season after technical problems with his Mercedes. He was one of five racers who failed to finish the race. As a result, Vettel closed to within 50 points of Hamilton in the championship race.
The next round of high-octane action will take place at Suzuka Circuit, Japan in two weeks' time.
