Coming from the Toyota markx with 212hp V6, after the test drive we were very happy from the performance from the Jetta's 1.4 engine partly due to the quick shifting of the DSG.
Overall a very capable family sedan to fulfill family needs.
Car was left in stock condition and serviced only by VCS.
Covered over 75,000km during the 4years.
handling is very sharp and performance should satisfy most family men/women.
Owned this car for total of 4 year and experienced lots of problems.
1) Turbo not spooling within the 1st week (fixed after a 10min software dyno).
2) Gearbox MU dead slightly after 1year (MU replaced under warranty).
3) Wing mirror lighting cover fell off suddenly.
Other than the above issues encountered, the Jetta is a good value and economical family sedan for the sporty family with decent performance, comfort and safety.

Short summary of the 2010 Jetta `
|
|
Bought the 2010 model 4 yrs ago. After 70,000 km covered, over highways, city driving, SG and MY roads. Decided to write a long term review on this car.
1) Looks - overall this car looks normal. It wont excite you everyday when you wallk towards it, neither will it put you off after looking at it for too long.
2) Interior space - Sits 4 adults comfortably, 5 would be a slight squeeze due to the center hump. Air-con is quite strong but has a strange mind of its own. Set at 22 deg, it slowly lowered the fan speed to min during the hot afternoon!
3) Performance - powerful for a 1.4 due to super & turbo charging. Good if you always dart in and out of the gaps in traffic. Suspension leans towards to sporty side and you'll feel the bumps, potholes and road conditions. The front is 300kg heavier hence understeer is quite obvious esp when turning at speed.
4) comfort - Average, my old toyota 1.3 was quieter, Altis was quieter, swift 1.3 manual was about the same. Vios slightly nosier, Fit 1.3 nosier.
5) Reliability - refused to start 2 times in carpark, jerking during 1st & 2nd gear during acceleration, mechcatronics had to be replaced once.
6) Maintenance - more ex than Japan cars seems like every item need add extra just because it is a Conti car.
Overall - Good power, however there is this nagging uncertainty at the back of your brain that it will breakdown. Which it did, 3 times in the past 4yrs. My toyota never broke down in the 8yrs of driving it.

Most powerful car that I've owned `

I was initially looking at the Toyota Prius after reading about its review on the net.
Borneo motors was offering a model which I think was a base model. My backseat driver (wife) commented on the narrow seat. So we decided to look at other model around Leng Kee area. At that time my current model was a Civic 1.6. Did not want to look at another Honda again because their service sucks even though my last two model was a Honda.
So we ended up at VW, when I saw the specs of the Jetta 1.4 TSI sports, it was love at first sight. Went back home and read up everything about the Jetta on the net. Went back to VW to confirmed the order, presto three weeks later I'm driving the car.
Got it within the first bid,

Jetta TSI 1.4 Non-sport `

heard a lot of stories of jap cars. decided to change my altis which near 4 yrs. now driving for nearly 2 months, so far satisfied with the features and enjoy it. can feel the weight when moving at low and high speed (heavy and not smooth at low speed but stable at high speed, compare with Altis).
