Our family also owned this car for eight years and still going strong.
It has been a strong and sturdy car that never leaves us stranded on the road
The car has a few issues with lacking equipment, but car is generally adequate with standards of a budget car of the past decade.

What I like
Features.
Despite that cars in 2017 are filled with features which makes this car pale in comparison, this car is considered quite adequate in spec.
It has all power windows with one touch down function(tested)
The PI gave us a touchscreen which was adequate at that time when cars do not come with them by default
Aircon blower has few settings to choose
(Some car called the T. V*#$ only have the options or the air condition to blow either your face or face and feet only -in 2017!)
Soft touch materials add to the class
Everything closesor turns with a solid thud or click
Looks better than the new version
Ps: Make a Corolla Quest out of this version to sell as a budget variant of Corolla for Corolla-loving Singaporeans (very unlikely though)

What I do not like
Crappy aircon compressors
Shape of covering of speedometer(very minor)
Overly assisted steering wheel
Unlighted boot( buy a after market one would do.)
No vanity mirrors
No reading light for driver and passenger?

Overall I will recommend people this car for anyone who would like to consider a reliable performance car with good fuel efficiency.

Drove this car sometime back, had a great experience from one of the most basic car ever. Though it lacks of those new technology features such as traction control and what not, the car basically gives you the comfort and economical expenditure from point A to point B. Sitting position is not bad and passenger seat is more of a 2 adults and 1 teenager kind of space. Handling is good and so is the braking. Leg and head room space is acceptable too.

What I like
Economical fuel consumption
Basic family car for non fussy drivers

What I do not like
Nothing much other than the exterior looks.

I've been having this car for aboout 4 years. It's a very comfortable car with one of the best braking system I've seen so far. Moreover I've not had any problem with the car. It's a reliable family car

What I like
Very responsive with a very good braking system. It's FC is better than car in its range and I get an average of about 13.5km/l though I'm quite hard footed. I also like the handling of the car though it might be too responsive for new drivers.

What I do not like
It's not very spacious and is just good enough for a family of four.

This is my 2nd review after driving this car for 3 months +. Excellent and no regret are the words to describe. Really a good car to drive. On the highway, if you need theextra power to overtake just step on the accelerator, the car will eagerly move forward very fast. Or best still shift from drive to sports gear to get the better push (can overtake easily). Car feel stable even at 130 speedo with great fuel consumption. I have been achieving at best 17 km/litre or at worst 15km/litre with no mod at all, most of the time driving with eco light on Everything is original exceot for lowered suspension. Loving the ride of my car more & more each day..:) Would definitely recommend to anyone who love to drive safetly with the speed and stability. Way to go...Axio

What I like
Everything

What I do not like
No tachnometer

Brought a used auto 07 Axio last month. Had been driving this car for almost a month only. Previoulsy was driving Mit Lancer glx 1.6 manual. The pickup for axio can be good if you are willing to step on the accelerator but that would mean more petrol consumption. Overall quite like the feel of the car except for slower pickup but with good fuel consumption. Had been getting around 14-15 km/l.

But I kind of miss my lancer for the smooth pickup (manual) and getting around 13.5 km/l plus can play with the gear. Now driving auto dunno where to put my left hand?? Lancer boot space, back seat leg space also better than axio. For those who like to cheong, please dun buy axio. T

What I like
The overall feel of the car
the exterior apperance
good fuel consumption

What I do not like
slow pickup unless stepping on the accelerator
leg space for back seat crampy
Boot too small

By far the most reliable car so far I have drive. I bought a used Axio last Dec 2010 and have been driving it for 3 months now. So far everything is good including the fuel efficiency. Did some add on like getting the body with a new coat of paint and adding visor and scuff plate. Other then that the rest are as it is. Compare to the Latio which is my previous car feature and space wise it lost out big time. However if you look at the power under the hood it gives out, Axio out weighs Latio many times more. Just a light tap on the gas it moves out without fuss. On the average I clock around 14 - 15km/ l for every tank.

What I like
- Fuel efficiency
- Powerful for a 1.5

What I do not like
- No tach meter (Not used to it initially but not really important)
- Leg room not too good

This review is based on my experience with a manual Axio I rented for a week, and as a passenger in an automatic one driven by a friend. Overall, this car is a good buy if you don't mind its lack of features and spartan interior.

The car looks bigger than it actually is, and having heard numerous complaints from friends about the Axio having very poor legroom, especially in the rear seats, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is in fact sufficient legroom, unless the passengers are particularly tall. In fact, my family didn't find it much smaller or less comfortable to squeeze into compared to an Audi A4 I drove a few days before driving this car.

The interior is rather plain for a car of this era, with big, simple dashboard displays. I was surprised to find that the car comes with a reverse camera but no tachometer! I can't think of many other cars, even budget models, which do not have a tachometer in this day and age. Still, this isn't a big issue as the Axio is a practical family car, not a performance car, and can be driven easily by feel alone.

Being a parallel import, the reverse camera screen comes with Japanese words. Also, the radio channel selection follows the Japanese settings, being 12 behind local ones. For example, if you want the local channels 90.5 or 97.2, you would have to select 78.5 or 85.2 on the radio channel respectively. Apart from these minor details, the controls, knobs and dials on the head unit and air con controls are simple to use.

The car will only start with the clutch pedal depressed. The clutch is light and easy to work. This is a good thing, because the car has a very high and narrow biting point (at least, this was the case with the car allocated to me). If you haven't driven manual for a while, you can be sure of stalling at least once! Once you get used to the biting point, however, the car is very smooth. It does not feel underpowered at all, and will pull ahead strongly at any gear provided you are in the power band at a suitable speed. Only when climbing slopes is a downshift needed to maintain speed. It feels equally at home driving gently and changing up the gears quickly, or dragging the gears longer in spirited driving.

The steering wheel is very light, even at parking speeds. Still, the car feels stable on the highway till 100km/h, an improvement over Japanese budget cars of old!

What I like
For a 1500cc car, it feels quite lively and is also very economic to run. I obtained an average of 14km/l on 50/50 highway/urban routes and a 50/50 mix of gentle and spirited acceleration, which is not bad at all for Singapore road conditions.

Being a die-hard manual fan, I would certainly consider buying this car simply because of the fact that it is one of the increasingly few number of new cars available in manual transmission to this day. Undoubtedly, the manual version would provide much more control over acceleration and fuel economy. However, the automatic version my friend drove didn't feel underpowered either. It felt very sprightly and responsive compared to many other automatic cars of 1500cc and below.

Visibility in this car is excellent. The mirrors provide great coverage, with few blind spots.

The steering, being extremely light at parking speeds, makes it a breeze to drive and park.

While the biting point is high and takes some getting used to, the clutch is so light and easy to handle that I found it perfectly enjoyable to drive even in a traffic jam.

What I do not like
While the light steering is an advantage at low speeds, it would prove a great disadvantage at higher speeds. It felt stable enough up to 100km/h, but past that (I tried 110km/h for a short period) it started to feel light and floating. Maybe it is because I have been driving cars which are much more stable at speeds well beyond that, but I wouldn't try going anything more than that with this car! For those who keep to legal speeds in Singapore, this isn't much of an issue. For speed demons or those who frequently travel up on Malaysia's highways, this car is not a good choice!

Handling is average - more than sufficient if driven sensibly, but certainly not if treated as a performance car.

The brakes on the car I drove were not too good. Maybe because it was a rental car which took frequent abuse; I guess the stock brakes on a new, well-maintained one would be better. I had to combine responsible driving and keeping safe distances with lots of downshifting for engine braking at the same time as I used the brake pedal.

The gear lever was rather stiff and notchy, and shifting into 1st gear when stationary, 5th gear on the highway or reverse when parking required a bit more effort than normal. Thankfully, shifting between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears felt much better.

Though this is purely a matter of personal taste, I felt that the gear lever, with its shift boot and shift knob, looked ugly and cheap. I cannot think of a car with an uglier shifter in a long time, except possibly those on some Chinese brands. I also found that the shift knob couldn't be removed easily by hand, so customizing it with an aftermarket knob would be difficult.

The lack of a tachometer is glaringly obvious and totally unexpected for a modern car, though this is not a big issue to me.

Sound insulation was fairly poor. Road noise was evident at medium speeds. While the engine is muted enough even under normal acceleration, a high-pitched whining comes in at cruising speeds of 80km/h and above - this is quite loud and intrusive, and I say this as an owner of a diesel car!

All in all, this car has a few obvious disadvantages, but to me, the good points of this car far outweigh the bad. For the price you would pay to buy this car, it is a good enough bargain. Just remember to treat it as a general purpose sedan and not a performance car, and enjoy the savings on fuel!

I have been driving Axio x for more than 3 months. I bought it as used car registered in year 2007. At first look, the car is simple and easy to handle. But there is much room to improve.

I have installed the following:
1) Spoiler (that make the car look a little sporty) (cost $220)
2) Fog light (since mine did not have it) (cost S$180)
3) change to 16 inch sport rim and using performance tyre TOYO proxies T1R 205/50ZR16 87W (Tyre cost S$160x4=S$640 & Rim S$ 650)
4) Decap exhaust (more power)(S$300)
5) Install Coilover (S$ 1550) now my car corner at high speed with confidence
6) Soundproofing (S$1000 plus)
7)ICE (S$ 4000) now my car is more entertaining to drive in
8) change to Hurricane filter (increase air intake more power)
9)install D1 Spec VSD III (now my car accelerator more responsive)
10) last to go for tuning with unichip (S$850)

with the add on less than S$8000, you can convert your car that cost more on the market.

What I like
All

What I do not like

I've used to drive a Daihatsu, Nissan, Hyundai. But Toyota Axio is most reliable, and fuel efficiency is superb after using it for three years.

What I like
The reverse camera, LCD display, fuel efficient, eco indicator, s-cvt-i, vvt-i, dashboard compartment with upper and lower, smooth cruising along highways and climbing slope with ease.

What I do not like
The original LCD with Japanese words, Wheel arc and tyres (gap too wide)

This car is amazing for city driving, it responses very well to sudden change in acceleration and does cornering well. Can outrun most of the bigger cars in short run. Advantages as it can pull away from a crowded pack of cars on a highway. I have added a 17 inch rims and it affected the FC a little but the car is still as powerful as ever. Love it ! not sure any cars can replace this sensation when I decide to change in future .

What I like
Light but sturdy on road.

Engine is powerful but consumes little petrol.

Cheap road tax, $600 + for 1 year !

Good road holding ( probably I use better tyres)

What I do not like
Car looks a bit small compare to other 1600 cc cars

No boot light (can be easily rectified in aftermarket products)

A/C not powerful enough during hot weather.

No Sunroof

I've had it for 3 months and all I can say is that its a very good cruiser and its very fuel efficient. Did minor mods to it like changing the stock air filter to a K&N drop-in, Ultra Racing strut bar, 5 point grounding and an auto-gauge tachometer. Engine is more responsive after the air filter change.

What I like
The design.
The fuel efficiency.
The name.

For almost 2 yrs of driving my car, its still good!!
For those shortcoming of my car which it does not have, I had already installed.

Lighting - Boot light, side mirror lights, fog light.

Performance - Strut bar, voltage stabilizers, denso iridium sparkplugs.

New tyres - Michelin with nitrogen gas, still the best, silent and shiok!!

New rims - Magnum light weight rims.

New bumper and reverse sensors (FOC), 1 blind driver bang me from behind.

Interior wrappings...

What I like
Aircon still very cold.
FC still very good, ard 15km/L
Cornering still better than driving a MVP.
