Camry or Aurion? | Posted on 21 Feb 2012 |

Review
First thing you need to know is that this is not exactly a Camry, in reality its called the Toyota Aurion which has the same platform as a JDM Camry and is marketed in Asia (except Australia) as the Toyota Camry. First impressions are the car looks good and feels good but there is a problem with it.
What I like
Good looks, big bodied, big trunk, comfortable ride, soft leather, lots of leg room, Lexus like front and centre console, holds its values well, easy to maintain.
What I do not like
Bad quality control, lots of plastic on door panels, no memory seats, no knock-down rear seats, terrible exhaust note, bad engine sound, not economical compared to European counter part. underpowered compared to European counterparts. Plastic feels cheap, boring looking engine bay, cheap looking factory GPS and A/C controls, steering wheel looked derived from smaller Toyota models.

I've owned Passat, Cefiro, Accord previously and recently purchased a Camry and found this car to be the most satisfying ride ever. Owned this for 3yr + now and like the consistency in performance and hassle free maintainability. No it does not attack like a Porsche or swoon the ladies like a BMW but in its class you can expect an all-rounded quality experience.
What I like
-Cranks to life 100% of the time
-Stock parts work best
-No need for ridiculously costly and questionable mods on air filter, braking systems, shocks, etc
-Comfortable and luxurious ride experience even at 100k mileage
-Handsome looks albeit chassis design being 4yrs minus flamboyance
-Mileage averages 10.5-11km/L even at 100k mileage
-Ever reliable cruise control for long drives
What I do not like
-Stock head unit with blue glow
-Tire noise (tire brand perhaps?)

I test drove this car and I was surprised with the handling. The exterior looks amazing and interior feels very comfortable.
What I like

What I do not like
Looks can get boring.
Thin roof make people think that it is a cheap car.

I collected camry 2.0 on August'09 and after 2 months trial, so many problems come out, especially soundproofing until i must fork out my money to install soundproofing. the ride sucks and the bodyrolling is about the same with altis and vios. probably due to tom yum maker.
Another problem is the fuel consumption, it can go down to 7km/l under normal driving. The worst thing is the service and maintenance at toyota Leng kee as the the main workshop of borneo motor. They seems didn't bother with the quality of service and my car getting worst after i service it. their technician and customer service seems not professional enough to handle my problem.
This will be my last ride on toyota and i will never buy again toyota as i disappointed with the car quality and after sales service.
the reason for me to write this review is to share my problems and opinion that i had with toyota.
What I like
- 5 yrs warranty but difficult to claim due out of stock(their excuse)
- exterior model
- quite spacious
- low depreciation
What I do not like
- long queue and collect even i have already make booking in advance
- the quality of servicing(leng kee is the worst)
- bumpy ride
- jerk transmission
- high Fuel consumption
- bodyrolling
- road, wind, engine and tyre noise(all noise have)
- acceleration damn slow( lose to all 1600cc cars)
- brake and foot brake not good enough and they cant fix it after 3 times servicing, lousy leng kee!
i regret after buying it and going to sell it soon.
i'm waiting borneo senior staff to follow up my problems..

Test drove the 2.0L version...dunno if this apples for 2.4L...it's actually a pretty basic car but the number on the roads seems to suggest otherwise.
What I like
The doors close with Lexus reassuring 'thud'. Showroom unit is clean and well build. Effortless and linear power from 147bhp 2.0L engine. it's torquey so you won't feel the lack of power. really quiet engine.
What I do not like
Testdrive unit had 'melted' plastic (sticky to the touch). Facelift makes the car looks cheap, body rolls too much in corners. it's not really a large car despite the huge exterior. 2.0L is really basic spec. Expensive now with the Camry name aquiring such high price. Meant to only cruise at 90kph as ride gets too floaty for any confidence to go faster. seats are really soft (you will sink into car when you seat in it).

Review
Test drove the Camry 2.0 and 2.4 recently.
A little apprehensive initially as it was Thai-assembled rather than Japan made.
Pleasantly surprised by the excellent build quality, quiet drive and generous amounts of torque from the engine.A sound choice for a mid-sized family sedan.
What I like
Quiet ride
Comfortable interior
Auto headlights
Flat rear floors
Very powerful and refined engine
Excellent NVH insulation
3+2 years warranty
What I do not like
Not much feedback from steering.
Small tomtom screen
Absence of HID lights in the 2.0L model
Auto entry/start would have been nice in the 2.0L model.
Relatively more expensive car compared to the Teana.
More choice of body colours would have been useful
The car is built more for comfort rather than a spirited drive.

Owned an Accord previously. just had it changed to a Camry.
What I like
1.Very Quiet engine
2.Nice exterior design
3.Supportive seats
4.Well insulated cabin
5.Comfortable
6.Luxurious interior
7.Plasmacluster: sort of helps in cleaning the air
8.Electronic controls for front passenger
What I do not like
1.The sound system is quite poor
2.too much body roll when conering
3.low OMV of $27k compared to Honda Accord 2.0 $32k (sept)
4.Ugly audio panel (looks cheap)
5.147 bhp versus accord's 2.0 156bhp max power
6.Accord 2.0 priced at $102,800 Camry 2.0 priced at $96,988 ($6k gap now i would go for the Accord)
7.Looks big on the outside but not as roomy as the Accord on the inside
8. 4 speed automatic transmission(Accord has 5)
9.High petrol consumption of 9.6L/100km for 2.0 compared to Accord's 8.2L/km
10. No paddle shifters
11.Lack steering feedback
12.does not command much presence:seems to be able to see it everywhere you go

Driven 2 generation of Camry. The last JDM version and the current Thai model. Both being 2.4L version hence no issue with sluggish engine performace. Comfortable and spacious even with driver's seat push back. The control feature for the accessories are great. Foot brake needs getting use to for the 1st couple of drives.
What I've driven is in oversea. Hopefully some dealer already have bought them in.
What I like
Actually driven 2.4V with DVD touchscreen GPS system.
Cockpit display with parking radar and visual indication is a great feature to have.
17 inch rim is a bonus so the ride is stiff enough with a soft suspension.
Sunroof feature with keyless entry. A button on the remote lets you open the sun-roof and driver's window, cool feature to have when it is park under the hot sun.
Heater seat, great for those cold country winter unfortunately, we don't need.
What I do not like
The keyless entry can malfunction at time. There's no manual key overide, hence need to have a spare remote around.

Looks good, but is a lemon.
1. Front suspensions changed 4 times
2. Rear suspensions changed 1 time
3. Steering shaft changed twice
4. Wheel bearings changed once
5. Battery changed once
Problems started around 20,000km, Now reached 39,000km (18 months old) but still unresolved, though under the 5 year warranty. Still testing out the modified suspensions from the agent, and steering shaft still click click click.
What I like
The overall design / style

Toyota Camry 2.4 is my 3rd saloon. My 1st two were Hyundai Coupe 2.0 and Nissan Cefiro 2.3. Hence, I have a natural tendency to make comparisons with my previous cars.
The car is big and spacious - except for the boot.
The interior is fairly luxurious and well furnished - except driver seat a ted tight.
Compared to cefiro 2.3, this 2.4 engine is noisier and pickup is less powerful.
The navigator and radio are superb! However, the CD player can only play ONE CD (no disc-changer), and it can only play certain CDs and DVDs effectively. It will 'select' out certain (local and foreign) CDs and DVDs and give the sound a muffled tone. I have managed to get the player totally changed at Borneo, but the new device suffers from the same problem. I'll probably resign myself to it cos I can't spend any more time going to the service centre.
The air-con is hardly effective at the weakest setting, so will have to use a minimum of 2nd level.
The headlights are good. The rear mirror with auto-dimmer is fantastic. The reverse camera (and image) is excellent. The auto function of windscreen wiper is impressive.
Wheels are nice. Yes, black is hard to maintain.
What I like
1. Auto function of windscreen wiper
2. Reverse camera (and image)
3. Auto-dimmer mirror
4. Navigator
What I do not like
1. DVD player
2. Engine prowess
3. Engine noise
4. Boot space

Review
My parents and I bought a Camry 2.0 litre and I actually quite like prefer the 2.4 litre because it packed with more features than the 2.0 litre. We used to have a previous model Camry and we believe its a better well-priced executive car.
What I like
This newly batch compared to the previous has a new Track Smart Audio System that has 5 interesting things like, GPS, Reverse Camera, MP3/MP4 Compatibility, Bluetooth handsfree and DVD system as compared to the regular 6 disc CD changer. The controls are much better than my previous Camry. The boot space is always much better than a Honda Accord because for people likes to carry more golf bags is better.
What I do not like
The terrible thing that I expect from a Camry is the performance. At only 147bhp, which lost to Honda Accord 2.0 litre performance at 156bhp. It's quite disappointing. But afterall, its quite a smooth that feels more like a luxury car. I also find the key start ignition using the conventional key type and I find it very unfair that only 2.4 has a keyless entry and start button for engine ignition. This should apply that to 2.0 litre Camry and it gives truly an executive car. Lastly, the rear seats can't fold down, which is a shame that you can't extend from the boot.

Review
I have been driving the new Camry for almost a year now and i must say that it is a really good car to drive. Not only is is very steady, sturdy and reliable, it has a good comfortable feeling which is not found in many Japanese cars. Having said that, owning a black car is not easy to maintain but it sure does exudes pride if care is taken to maintain it.
The white coloured one is easier to maintain and gives a good perception that the car is larger than it actually is although black makes the Camry look much fiercer.
Very comfortable seats even for the back passengers. | Posted on 29 Aug 2008 |

The headlights - Looks very grand.
The interior seatings - Very spacious.
What I do not like

Currently driving a year 2008, 2.0L camry. Despite being a car that is more than 7 yrs old, and clocked over 160,000 km. The engine is still running good, smooth and quiet. Avg fuel consumption so far with 70% City and 30% Highway is approx 9km/l with a fairly heavy foot during pick up.
What I like
Reasonably well insulated cabin.
Strong aircon
What I do not like
No HID
No keyless entry or keyless start
Dashboard ages and cracks very fast
